Why didn't you buy the STI?
As I said, what will steer me one way or the other will be price. I've had the local Suby dealer offer me an STi for invoice, and am now just waiting to see with the Mitsu dealers around here will do. If the Evo is within, oh, $1000 of the STi (for an SE), thats what I'll get. If the Mitsu dealers are hitting hard on their crack-pipes, and not wanting to give me a semi-reasonable price...well...money talks, and I'll walk.
Just the way life goes I suppose.
BTW: Thanks for not turning that into a flame, which I'm sure was tempting.

My dream cars:
1. Acura Integra Type-R (as a little kid)
2. Dodge Neon SRT-4 (as a highschooler)
3. Mitsubishi Evolution IX (as a young adult)
I didn't get neither of the first 2 dream cars coz I didn't have the money but the last one I had to get it coz well last chance and coz I was able to afford it.
Why didnt I get a STi:
1. Overall loook
2. Ugly hood
3. Too many around town
Subarus are known for their reliability but believe me I couldn't live driving a car I didnt like. Evos are way more appealing to my eyes and performance is up there too.
Thanks.

Look I am shopping for the car. Really want to buy an Evo.
Just to give another "kid on the block" a chance I wanted to ask you guys why didn't you buy a Subaru STI? I am sure there is a minority of people on this forum who thought of getting an STI before ending up in an EVO. I know you all love your cars and I DO realize I am on the EVO forum, so no flames please.
I plan to do a lot of track events. I believe EVO RS is one of those few cars you can drive onto the race track straight from the showroom floor. (maybe upgrading tires and brake pads and brake fluid).
I think STI:
a). Heavier
b). Lazy Steering
c). Softer Suspension
d). Less balanced chassis
e). not as sophisticate center diff
What else? If you hate the STIs I guess now is the time. I really appriciate your input.
Thank you!

i didnt buy the sti simply because i went into the dealership to talk about purchasing the sti and they didnt even look at me. The mitsu dealership when i visited was much nicer to me and thus got my money. That was the final straw in my decision between the two though i had been leaning toward the evo anyways.
The question shouldnt be why you didn't buy the STI, it should be why didnt you buy the EVO?...I originally had the STI until I traded it in a few months ago for a IX and man I love my IX to death. I have a grin on my face each time I drive it. The STI did have a better interior IMO but the EVO is a kick in the pants to drive each time, it never gets tiring.
1) blue interior pieces
2) higher price
3) sound
(never even bothered to drive one)
If I had to choose I think it would be between the Legacy 2.5 GT limited and the Evo. I still chose the Evo! The LGT is pretty bad *** though....

- The Engine, although being a 2.5, is made of glass and will shatter.
- The Head design is inferior to that of the Evolution, does not flow as wel.l
- The Turbo runs out of steam even in stock form and cannot sustain power up top at all, much worse when modded
- Short gearing, as soon as you get moving, you are out of gear, it is VERY annoying.
- Poorer Aftermarket, especially cam availability
- Left the best motor in japan, one that is forged, 2.0, and actually revs, VERy expensive too.
- Can't get the 2 Door STI which is MUCh lighter, and came with the ABOVE engine.
- Did you ever try to change the spark plugs? You almost have to drop the motor.
- You DO have to drop the motor to get cams in there.
- 225 series tires Vs. 235 on the Evo plus they are less sticky.
- Back seat is far worse then the Evo.
- Understeers (Read PLOWS) and DCCD really does nothing unless 50-50 which a 03 Evo has all the time.
- Mod for mod are left in the dust by the Evo and even need Larger Turbos to be competitive.
- A FP Green Equipped STi runs as fast as a BPU VIII/IX.
- TMIC heat soaks and doesn't flow too well, FMIC upgrade aleast 1K.
- Steering less responsive.
- More Body roll.
- Can't handle the slightest bit of knock.
- Aluminum blocks Vs. Iron
- Did I mention the turbo is smaller then an infants ***** in February?
It is the superior Daily Driver though.

Nothing like an educated post from someone who gets his misinformation from magazines.....
I won't point out all of the false statements in the above post, as that's not the point of this thread. I'll just let ignorance be bliss.

Magazine? PLEASE, I have all my work done at, believe it or not, a Premier Subaru Tuning Facility. They crack open and rebuild motors, transmission, suspensions, anything that is a Flat 4/6 and build race cars as well. I am the ONLY Mistu allowed there, must have atleast 10 Scoobys there at a time getting modded, repaired, rebuilt, etc. At this point I believe I know more about the Sti then an Evo, it's so sad.
Please, do point out ANY misinformation, I would LOVE to hear this. Most posts were also in observance of the 4G63 as the competition BTW, so keep that in mind.
