I couldn't have said it any better!!

I bought the Evo because they came out before the Subaru did.

If I had to choose right now, between an Evo or a Sti, I'd still probably go Evo because I don't like the new front end of the Subaru. The cruise control is very tempting though.

^^^^ lol

I had friends that owned and drove the STi. Many of them were happy with what they had, but they all seemed a little jealous of the Evo owners. Previously, I was a dedicated RSX owner and since the first time I saw an Evo in person I was drooling. Then I would drive by the dealership every two weeks to see if they got one in so that I could look at it and dream. I finally got one, and I haven't stopped smiling since

The evo may be too raw for many, but if you're addicted to pure acceleration, surgeon-like steering precision, and a chassis with intuitive handling behavior, go with the Evo. If you want cruise control, and an interior without squeaks, go with the STi :-D

... besides I heard the stock STi pushes quite a bit (more than the Evo) in hard cornering

I driven a 06 STi.. and if I weren't into craving speed and raw acceleration this would be the car for me.. Just a TBE with a tune would do it for me.. Great communeter, with nice sound, and the comfort required to communte, Cruise control, 6cd changer, etc etc.. get the point.. so maybe when I become a 40 to 50's man and not wanting the crazy things i want now.. this would be my car.. a STi..

agreed

I was actually on the STI bandwagon for a while. I bought a 2.5i that i had before I got my EVO and honestly, I love the exhaust note of a Subaru even over the EVO's.

However, that's where the line is drawn. The EVO looks a lot more aggressive, has a much stronger, time proven engine in it, and hell, the car is just fuggin sexy

The STI is a nice car, but it's just not as fun to drive as the EVO is. Very hard to explain until you drive them both.

On paper the STi seems marvelous, much better than the Evo.
I wondered how much mitsu paid all the magazines to say the EVO was better (C&D, R&T, M&T,sports compact, and others).
I thought : If the Sti has more power, more torque, same weight, less lag. How come the evo is faster/equal in the road course?
I almost bought the Sti. I drove it and felt loose inside it, steering felt disconnected.

yada yada yada, that until I drove the Evo, got hooked and bought it.
I then understood the difference and why the Evo won in all those comparos.

Well I had an 03 Evo and after I blew the diff and was very dissappointed, I traded it in for an 05 Sti. Well to say the least my ex-girlfriend got tired of me just constantly complaining about the Sti. It wasn't a bad car but I was miserable with it since it was so tame compared to my Evo... In any case, the Sti got totalled (blessing in disguise) and I got to get back in an Evo IX!

Either way, you really can't go wrong because both cars are fantastic to own and drive.
theres your best answer right there. it all comes down to preference. i joined this site 2 yrs ago when i was supposed to get an insurance settlement for a family member that died so i can buy an evo, but the settlement came in at the beggining of december 07......2 yrs after i was expecting it...... the way i looked at it, evos are more mod friendly, but the subaru is way more reliable. both cares can produce lots of HP. its up to you on how much money you want to spend. i wanted the Evo MR edition but i didnt want to spend 37,000 on a mitsubishi, when i could of spent a few grand more and got a BMW. so i got the STi for 34,000. 3,000 grand cheaper than the MR, and a stage 2 kit cost about 2,000 for the STi. now i have an sti thats cheaper then an Evo MR and im pushing about 305awhp as opposed to 240-255awhp. so you get a leg up in the compitition if you want the MR and you just grab an STi and stage 2 that beast.

I had a 1971 Porsche 914 w/68' 327 that was built to the hilt, 652hp, 1780lbs I loved that car, but when my wife and i test drove 06' Evo IX MR SE, I was hooked. It's not as fast as the Porsche, but you can actually turn, in the EVO.
