Why didn't you buy the STI?

WELL....to answer my own question

################################################## ######################
I didn't buy STI because I found a nice red 2006 EVO RS for a decent price below MSRP. I like the simplicity of the car, it handles, the turbo is very loud, which I like. It got a nice punch to it and with some bolt-on mods I'll make more horsepower then STi.

The bad:
Interior is very cheap, very cheap . I thought people were just picky when they complained about EVO interior, no really it's that cheap . To be honest STi isn't any better. But you don't need interior in that car, the scream of the turbo and the sharp handling makes up in full.

I guess I can still enjoy my BiTurbo B5 S4 for having a nice solid interior and very smooth driving.

But the EVO is just WICKED!!!! That's why I didn't buy an STi. EVO is just WICKED!

Thank you, for all your answers!

Yes, the interior is pretty crappy (obviously not couting the steering wheel and seats) as far as appearance goes. I picked up this girl to watch a movie, and she's into cars and likes the Evo but had never ridden in one. While she admired its speed on the straights and through the curves, she asked me, "What year is this car?" "2006." "Then why does it look like this? [pointing at the center console]" I was embarassed for a sec, but then I said that Mitsu decided to spend their money on making the car ridiculously fast rather than all comfortable or whatever, otherwise I would've bought a BMW.

Yeah, it is. No douchebaggery......just a drive down the highway. I can't say that I've ever had an STi/STI or an Evo throw out a challenge on a public highway. Most often it's a friendly exchange of waves and a common respect for eachother.

I just don't get it. So many times I hear, "The STi's/STI's interior is so much nicer than the Evo's!" This has to be the biggest line of crap I've ever been spoon-fed. I was just over Cletus323's house the other night and we were outside and I was sitting in his car, just kinda messin' around with stuff. First I noticed that the headliner material was basically the same cheap-sh*t stuff found in the STi/STI, followed by the door panels with the alcantara on them, which looked to probably come from the same manufacturer as did the ones for the STi/STI, followed by the dashboard/console materials, that seemed to all have a fairly decent flush fit, but were of a cheaper plastic.

The ONLY reason that I can guess that a lot of people prefer the interior of the STi/STI over that of the Evo is because there isn't as much going on. The dash layout is much cleaner than that of the Evo. The Evo seems to have a lot of "pieces," and seems a bit "busy." Maybe this just looks cheap, but again, everything seemed to fit flush and tight. I do prefer the non-"busy" look of the STi's/STI's interior, along with the center "waterfall," but still, I find the STi's/STI's interior to be no more upscale than that found in an Evo. It just looks a little bit more tidy.....

Common respect is good because when you come down to it, we're always being bashed by the Honda/Cobalt SS/SRT-4 crowd. Granted those guys on THIS forum are usually very cool and mature, but the douchebaggery on the road is absolutely appalling.

Honda, Cobalt, and SRT-4 owners can bash the Evo and STi/STI all they like. They're just pissed off because they can't afford one, hence the reason they're driving underachieving front wheel drivers. We all hate what we can't have.

I could get absolutely get smoked by any of them, but even so, I'm not going to sit there and think to myself, "Damn, I should've gotten a ______."

If I get beat by one of the, I would think "Damn, I really need to get a turbo kit"

It also has to do with the average age of drivers in those cars. I would love a C6 Z06, Enzo, Ariel Atom, etc. Now if I ever saw those cars on the road, I would give a nice wave, a thumbs up, and just drive alongside them without the douchebaggery.

Yeah, a Z06 would be nice, but I wouldn't wanna hang out with the "old fat guy wearing a straw hat" crowd either.

As for being beaten by a Honda, Cobalt, or Neon, it is what it is. I'm not gonna go home feeling butt-hurt about it. I know my car's the whole package, while something like that is just a cheap one-trick pony trying to imitate a sporting machine.

Well those Neon's can blow by you all they want when the road is straight. My friend's 500+WHP with serious suspension and brake mods couldn't even keep up with an X5 4.6 and a pair of A8's through a country back road. My friend can drive very well but those FWD cars with power just cannot slice and dice. After this assault......he traded in the SRT for an EVO!!!! LOL

The RS was a bit more raw.. Didn't want any of the amenities, and the STI didnt' have a version like that. Needed a harder edged ride with better road feel, quicker steering, even if it meant a worse ride. In terms of aftermarket, I think they get the same support, if not slightly more to the Mitsu because it's been around longer. Very happy with my purchase.
