Why didn't you buy the STI?

. I have the comptech kit. Great kit, fairly easy to install, but still doesn't do crapola at low rpms. Over 6k though and it just screams...
Inline Pro has a completely stock block s2k (thicker headgasket) running over 500whp that did 10.6 in the quarter on street tires. On the second pass they turned their differential into a jigsaw puzzle
. Now they have a nissan skyline diff in the car.The f20c might actually be a better built motor than the 4g63, but it hasn't been around long enough (and doesn't fit in anything else) for tuners to figure it out.

Maybe it's just because I was riding shotgun in his IX MR, but it felt much stronger on the low than my STi does, even with its "mild" ECU flash. Maybe things are different from the driver seat.

One thing I do when those FWD cars start $hit and won't leave me alone is I just take a curvy road. They follow me thinking they can do the ricer fly by but oh wait, there's a turn. Their headlights keep falling further and further behind. I have to admit one time the douchebaggery got too bad so I left the guy and stopped in the middle of a curve. Guy came flying around and saw my lights and slammed on his brakes. I left when I saw him skidding off the road into the grass towards a tree. Mean? Yes, but that's the punishment for douche bagging.

However, in your defense, if he wasn't being a douche, he wouldn't have found himself sailing for the grass in the first place.
You get 2 points for douchebaggery. He gets 3, but only because he bought a pos.
I like the STI substantially better as a DD. The small turbo along with the extra .5L displacement make it a great car for regular driving. I think the interior is a lot nicer (especially than the VIII) and the bouncier suspension is again better for a DD. I tracked the STI once and it was actually pretty decent on stock everything except for an exhaust and AP. That being said, my VIII has been such a great car for track and performance. Stock for stock, the STI gets my vote even marginally over a IX, but as soon as mods are added into the equation, then the evo absolutely dominates. I would need bigger turbo, IC, injectors etc just to get to where a IX can get with exhaust and flash.

For what I would do to a car with basic miniscule mods, the STi works well for me, but at the same time, for doing miniscule mods, the Evo would probably work better. What it basically comes down to is that I bought what I felt was the better DD for "traffic situations."
Funny but true story.
A guy I know said, "The evo looks kinda girlie, but the sti looks like a brute". Personally I think the sti looks like a block of wood, and the evo looks more sporty". Let face it, neither are likely to win a beauty contest.

I actually like the look of evo and sti (not so much '06 model).
Then again, I have been a huge fan of wrc for years.
Both evo and sti were built to race in wrc at one point.
Although they got rid of group A specification after 2000 something, wrc required the race cars to look exactly like the cars they sell at one point.
Are they the best looking cars around? No.
But, show me a car that could give u the performance off the showroom w/that kind of racing credibility.
Btw, u really can't go wrong with either car.
It all depends on ur personal preference.

Guys,
Alot of you are probably going to jump on the wagon and run me down but here goes.
I have owned 2 Evos in the last 2 years a 2005 Graphite Gray MR and then I traded that in for a 2005 Apex Silver GSR w/SSL. Loved both cars, problem is Subaru came out with the new 2007 STi Limited in Urban Gray. So I have decided to trade in my 2005 GSR w/SSL for a new 2007 Limited STi in Urban Gray and will take delivery in a couple of weeks.
I have read this thread from beginning to end because I love my EVO a TON and still have seconds thoughts about trading it in for ALOT of reasons, especially when hearing about the lack of sharp steering and mod friendliness of the STi vs. the EVO -
1. 4G63 is alot easier to work on, especially when doing plug wires/plug changes, engine seems a TON more accessible.
2. Easier to break down and install modifications, more mod friendly.
3. Seems like more shops here locally in Minnesota are specialized in the 4g63 platform.
4. Wife complaining about me have a 4th new car in the last 5 years <--- this I can totally understand.
I been doing alot of reading on NASIOC and IWSTI and a bunch of other forums because I am trying to get a better understanding of what I am going to be moving over to. I have been hearing issues like ECUTek not unmarrying from the ECU properly and hesitation issues, etc. from those forums on the 2007.
So I have some reservation about moving over to the STi on that end of things. However, each car can be finicky I guess and it's just a matter of doing enough research to determine what proper path to go...seem CobbTuning is the way to go on the STi side and with the Access Port 2 coming out things should be much better, and there are alot of other things with the 2007 STi Limited that not only sound really encouraging as far as tuning.
The 2007 Limited has really grown on me and I really like extra ammenities that go along with it including the toned down appearance which is something my wife can enjoy driving also with our 2 kids, plus I have never owned an STi before so now I can say I have been on both sides of the spectrum.
These are just honest observations and my opinion, any comments are appreciated as long as they are respectful. Call me a traitor...or that I have moved over to the dark side...I don't care, I am still going to hang out with all my buddies on EvoMN.net and go to events and outings with them, I will never regret owning the EVO and will certainly not regret getting the Limited.

I took a look at a 2007 STI Limited yesterday. For 2007 they added an air pimp on the drivers side of the engine that makes it even more impossible to get to the sparkplugs on that side. I have no idea WTF Subaru was thinking by doing that.

The reason I didnt buy a Sti is because Im not familiar with the engines and have heard that the engine were very sensitive when you start modding...
plus the evo looks better in my opinion and is faster by just a little but its still faster...

to ME...both are not doing so well in the looks department...I honestly feel kinda silly when talking about looks here...once you discover how capable these cars are you begine to like them and the bias starts with the looks...if I wanted looks I would get a used boxster a Z or a G35 or the new Solistice turbo....but since performance AND MODDING were my only concerns i went with the Evo....with some exterior modding the Evo could look descent..but its not going to win a beauty contest by any chance...I still LOVE it though.
