Why didn't you buy the STI?
I like to work on my cars with upgrades to the drivetrain, heads, exhaust, etc. The STI would have made any engine modification a real pain with its heads near the wheels with maybe the exception of an intercooler upgrade.
Plus the price was right for my evo ^.^

At the risk of getting flamed, I actually chose the STI over the Evo after several months of research and several test drives each.
STI felt better for daily driving versus the Evo's tendency to boost suddenly. I also felt more planted (Jeremy Clarkson actually states this in Top Gear) though I am the first to admit that the Evo's handling is much sharper.
I didn't like the Evo's steering wheel "bouncing" from left to right because of its super sensitive steering; the clutch play on the Evo was also too long for my taste and shifting just didn't come as naturally (felt jerky and/or overrevving between gears).
Interiorwise, I love the Evo's seats and the way they felt...my first words were "Oh man" when I felt those Recaros. I really couldn't care less about the dash for either cars but I guess people say the STI's looks more well put together. Meh.
Lastly, I didn't base my decision on how I was treated at dealerships since I know the cars have nothing to do with that. I was treated very well at some Subaru and some Mitsu dealers, I was treated not so well at some Subaru and some Mitsu dealers (even with my credit score on hand sporting a 720+ FICA).
Whenever asked about either car, my response is the same:
If I wanted a weekend, track monster I would have definitely gone for the Evo. Stupid power and speed for much cheaper and the handling to go along with it. Since this is my only car and obviously my daily driver, the STI gives me more than I could possibly want and the comfort to go with it. Also, whether it's true or not, STIs seem to appeal to an older crowd and Evos seem to appeal to a younger crowd. I am an older crowd
Good luck on your purchase. You cannot possibly go wrong with either car. Oh for what it's worth, I'm not shy in saying that I love the Evo look over the STIs, especially in photographs. But in person, I'd say there's a certain refined look to the 06s (which I have) that can only be appreciated through the naked eye. Aspen White on Gold FTW!

^i agree with everything u said. anybody who flames u is probably a hopeless evo fanboy.
like i said before, the sti is the better daily. but then again most ppl dishing out 30k for a spartan interior car are lookin for performance IMHO. i do agree though the STi has better interior amenities and is more comfortable.

the movie "who am i" EVO VI
Been thirsty to buy the evo ever since...If i had the money i'd have the sti also
prefer the evo b/c styling, steering, and most of all the killer interior

.I am looking for a track monster, and already drove the STi, so I am pretty set on EVO, just worried about the tranny everyone seems to complain about EVO 5-spd and 6-spd, they say it breaks.
I'd worry about your transfer case more, though if your truely worried you can have shepracing rebuild the tranfercase and transmission.
I believe AMS uses a stage 2 transfer case and tranny? if it can handle that power then you should be good to go

I was gonna buy a WRX/STi, but got the EVO because of three reasons.
1. I live like 50 minutes from BR's shop, and Jrod talked me in to it.
2. The EVO had more room in the back seat for babies
3. The wife said she loved Jrod's car and we should get one of those
