Get the model YOU want, I can't stress that enough.

I got the MR because there was only a $600 difference in price quoted between the MR and IX SE when I purchased my car.

$600 for Bilsteins, Vortex Generator, Wickerbill, Zero Lift Kit, Gauge Kit, Aluminum **** knob, Aluminum brake handle, etc. seemed like a good bang for the buck to me which is why I went with the MR.

Thanks
I've owned my MR for about 2 months and have tracked it twice now. If thats the route you are going then MR all the way. you will really love the suspension setup, lighter wheels, and lower center of gravity if you do.

Wait.... Hold up LoL. I thought the only main differences between the IX and the MR is the wheels and the 6-speed??

nope. go and track MR...you'll eventually break your trany since the gears are thinner

the main difference between the IX and MR are the 6 speed, aluminum roof (which the RS comes with) and rims. the other minor things are the VG, gurney flap (wickerbill), shift knob, and the front bumper thing (the name slipped my mind)

if you want to track...get the IX RS
if you want a daily driver and you arent going to mod much...get the IX MR
if you like sunroof...get IS GSR with SSL package
if you want a regular car to drive around but will change rims eventually and dont want the stripped down-ness of the RS...get teh IX gsr

(those are the 4 differnt trims available for the evo IX)

now, the choice is up to you. everyone loves their trim. choose which on YOU like. some hate the RS, but some love it. some think the MR is dumb, but some love it. GET WHAT YOU WANT! TRUST ME. THERE'S NOTHING LIKE HATING THE CAR THAT YOU SPENT A BUT LOAD OF MONEY ON.

LOL what are you, stupid? Have you ever even been on track?

MR >>>>> GSR...**** will break on track no matter what you drive...and the 6spd tranny is not weak. Too many bad drivers buy these things and break them.

you forgot about the biggest difference with the MR and that is the suspension.

if you can't afford 3-4k more on a car...don't start hating on it just because its better.

people shouldn't be modding anything until they can learn to drive and control a stock evo. My stock evo was tearing up a track prepped/track only 350z (granted the car is far more capable, but the driver wasn't). I was also pulling away hard from C5 and C6 Z06's and pretty much everything else in my class. And the best part is...I hvaen't even began to tap the capabilities of this car completely stock.

unless you want to count flushing out the old crappy brake fluid and replacing it with ATE Super Blue as a 'mod'

most that have broken gears in their 6-speeds also weren't using the reccommended
75-85 GL-4 in their trannies either. also, 1st and 2nd gear are thicker in the 6-speed. usually if you have 6-speed problems it's 4th gear and like i said, i'm sure using the wrong lubricant doesn't help, it says EXACT equivilent in the manual for a reason.

Golovko, he's referring to those of us who track our MRs regularly and have had the same exact failure with the teeth on 4th gear stripping off due to how weak gears 4-6 are, the amount of heat that builds up, and the friction that the fluid cannot overcome.

The exact same thing has happened to several of us, and the major trans builders in the industry (TRE and Shep) both agree that the 6spd is a pile of dog poo. Yes, having the 6 gears is nice as well as all the other features of the MR (believe me, I've been racing my *** off and loving the Bilsteins, BBS rims, aluminum roof, 6spd, etc), but now that I plan to actually compete in road racing, I am switching to a 5spd in place of my busted 6spd. These guys aren't talking smack - they are offering truth.

Shadykilla, the MR differences include:

- 6spd trans with teflon-coated shifter cables
- Bilstein shocks (better performance AND smoother daily ride)
- Lightweight BBS rims (2.76/2.43 lbs lighter per wheel than VIII/IX Enkeis)
- Lightweight aluminum roof
- Vortex Generators
- MR badging, floor mats, CF shift knob, CF e-brake handle

to say buy a GSR over an MR is just dumb. when the tranny goes out get a new one or swap it out for a 5spd. the other features of the MR alone are worth it. If you aren't 'hardcore' about tracking and do it once in a while then more than likely so long as you are a good driver you will see no problems with the tranny. if you are hardcore and track at least once or twice a month then you will see problems MAYBE depending on your driving skills.

alluminum shift knob not CF.

I'm sure that somebody had already posted this but get what you can afford dude, especially if you plan on tuning the beast. Cuz it ain't no joke when you're buying parts and paying for the Evo at the same time....amongest other bills that you may have.

Only you forgot that the SE IX offers aluminum roof as well as the BBS rims for the price of a regular IX. The vortex generators do almost nothing, 6-speed is too weak for sustained track use, and the bilsteins aren't that much of an improvement over the regular KYB's to justify getting MR. You can get a great set of coil overs for around 1500.

IMHO IX SE is your best option.
