Question BOV's

Can anyone direct me to a previous discussion or enlighten me about BOV's. Are they just because the noise is cool or do they actually do something? Is there an installation how to posted? Thanks.

yes there just noise makers. There is a need for them when your running preety high boost but stock turbo stick with the IX dv. The stock IX dv is great. I am sure some others will elaberate more or tell you to search

just for show purpose.

stock metal DV is perfect until your turn up your boost pretty high. but DVs are always better than BOVs that VTA

Since nobody has explained the purpose of a BOV I will thow in my 2 yen.

The main purpose a BOV is to prevent compressor surge. Compressor surge occurs when pressured air in the charge pipe moves in a direction towards the compressor outlet after the throttle is closed. Since compressor surge can lead to premature turbo failure a BOV provides a release point for the pressurized air. A DV is nothing more than a BOV that recirculates the released air back into the inlet of the turbo. This recirculated air also helps to spool the turbo faster between shifts. BOV's that are vented to atmosphere (not recirculated to intake) will cause motors with MAF sensors to stall or perform bad because the air that is being released has already been metered by the MAF Sensor. Running a atmosphere vented BOV setup on MAF sensor motor usually lead to rich AF ratio conditions which can lead to fouled plugs, cylinder washing or death of an engine.

With that being said, you can run a BOV on your MAF equipped car as long as you recirculate it like a stock setup. Many people like atmosphere vented BOV's because it announces the fact that they are turbo-charged. I'd rather do that with the spooling sound of the turbo and the scream of the wastegate

Main purpose for a blow off valve would be to blow off burp from your motor. The louder the burp, more attention you'd end up with. In opposite with humans, the motor favors the recirculation of the vented burp.

do you like to burp loud in public?

if you want the sound, just take off the cover for the filter and use a blitz induction cover. you will definitely hear the turbo more, and you'll get that famed "psshh" when you come out of boost. Plus, you'll keep your stock airbox, so no tuning of the ecu will be necessary.

Don't run a BOV. I was running a Go Fast Bits adjustable BOV. That particular BOV is a partially recirculating type (in hopes to improve driveability). Honestly, even then it still drove like ****. The problem I found with BOV's is partial throttle driving. Man, it's really a pain to drive at part throttle, it just doesn't feel right!! Stick to the stock metal IX DV, as soon as I switched to a DV my driveability problems were COMPLETELY GONE...

Diverter valve (DV), bypass valve and Blowoff valve (BOV) are all the same. Just the terminology is different.

An engineer on one of the Honda boards that I visit has patented a new BOV, wastegate and fuel pressure regulator that look very promising.

Read the entire Synchronic BOV thread. Disregard the idiotic replies and stick with the technical replies.

The only real HKS BOV is the HKS racing bypass valve. The SQV, SSQV, Racing SQV are lothargic pieces of bling bling!!
