If your parents see these kinds of statistics and still think an evo is a good idea, they are not real parents in my opinion, they are simply two people who screwed one night. The whole role of a parent is to make the decisions a kid cannot make for themselves.

Do whatever you want man.

I will agree that most 16 year olds do not have the driving experience and are not mature enough to handle an Evo. I probably would have killed myself if I had an Evo at 16, or even 20.

I will also add that earning something you want is much more satisfying than having it handed to you.

Also, please understand that alot of these people are trying to look out for your best interest. They could sit back and laugh, expecting you to crash your car, but instead they take the time to warn you of the dangers you may not have considered.

Obviously you care in some degree about the opinions posted on this forum, or you wouldn't have asked a question in the first place. Why not listen to what the vast majority of your peers have told you?

ok so you're 16...can you drive yet? I first learned on my mom's '95 elantra 5spd, when i was about 12. Everyday it was an empty parking lot or backroad(i live in the boondocks basically so plenty of roads and not alot of cars...) I'm 18 now and I drive a lancer oz and I'm ready for something faster now... If you think you're ready for an Evo I say go for it if you have driving experience. But personally I think it would be a better idea to get something like a mustang v6, civic si, or wrx if you need some speed, then work your way up.

ah yes, the "im getting an evo @ age 16" thread. we get these every now and then!!! lease allow simple_mr2 to give you some advice..

first of all, if you parents have enough money to buy you a $35,000+ car for you, we then good for them. you dad (or mom) must have worked hard in college. BUT, i, personally don't know what they are thinking? maybe you could enlighten me here. and for my opinion, dude, an evo is waaaaay to much car for a 16 year old. damn man, i didnt even get mmy liscence til i was 17 and a half. you know what ou should do, tell you parents, "mom, dad, i would be perfectly happy getting a civic for christmas!" get a civic si or something! do you ****ing need a god damn infiniti at you age!! no, g35's are for people who graduate college with a degree, or people in there mid-life crisis. anyway, what is an evo to you? just an image? "hey, i've got an evo, and im 16!" oh no! watch out! dude, i will bet you write now you wreck that car. i was ****ing 16 once, as with most members on the board here. we all do stupid ****. i can remember my friend and i tried to get my 1989 buick riviera over 100pmh so many times. an evo is a 300hp monster. when you push the pedal, it goes. dude you don't need an evo at this age, stop being ignorant. open your eyes and see that there is alot more to life than fast cars!

in the "cleveland plain dealer" (clevelands news paper), i have saved an article from the "driving" section featuring the lancer evolution 8 mr. and then is a section says the following, and i quote "why should you care: because its wicked fun and you shouldn't let you kids drive this car, ride in this car, or even know it exists" and thats said by a person who drives cars for a living. do you think he knows what he is talking about? of course, no, because you are 16....

seriously man, if you want to make one of the greatest desicions of you life, don't get an evo, wait to you are at least 21. trust all of us, its not that far away.....

Here is an idea:

Send these young drivers who want fast cars to a rehabilitation center and let them meet people who have been in vehicle accidents. I think that would be a a very shocking experience. Actually seeing the dangers would be much more impactful than just speaking about them.

No those were simply numbers I threw out there to emphasis my point. The statistics are none the less chilling, you have a 1 in 5 chance in getting in an accident at your age.

I think this kid is a lost cause, until he gets into his first accident or something else happens to knock some sense into him and make him realize that as great as he thinks he is, he has a lot of growing up to do. I only hope it doesn't cost him or someone else their life.

WHATUP TOURINGBUBBLE... I'm the same s0lja from SE... Need to meet you at a meet one day... Maybe you can see that I am mature and responsible... I had to earn my car by the way and can lose it in a second... Grades go down its gone, speeding ticket its gone, major accident(my fault) its gone...

Everytime I drive my car the first thing I think about is my parents... Dad reminds me at least 10 times a day that I am his only son and he doesn't even want to imagine what would happen if he lost that... Losing a life at 16-17-18 to whatever cause is such a waste... I would never be stupid enough to make my parents suffer and go through that much pain... But to be honest it would shock me to go and see rehabilitation patients but I don't think it would change my mind because I see myself as being responsible...

You mean you're going to beg mommy and daddy to ignore all the advice and buy you an evo.
