That's a Tial BOV
I remember this one...its one of my favorite sounding evo's...just sex.lol

For those Vids this one says its a knock-off but it comes really close to the sound of the S-15.

so it was a tial bov when it's surging ?. that's why it's making the flutterin sound? otherwise it'll just sound like any other bovs..?

I did that on my old 240 with the blitz BOV. BTW compressor surge is bad on non-ball bearing turbos like the Evos. Cars like the S15 with the stock turbo and most aftermarket turbos have ball bearing center cartriges that can handle the turbo spinning in reverse which is what is happening.

But you guys have to consider boost pressure ect. a t88 supra with 40lbs of boost with a hks ssqv is going to sound different than a evo with 20psi with a ssqv. Just my .02

First, the s-15 sound is definitely a BOV and not compressor surge. No idea what BOV it is though.

Second, compressor surge is bad regardless if you have a BB turbo or not. And during compressor surge, the turbo does NOT spin backwards. The airflow stalls or reverses, but the turbo never spins backwards.

good stuff.....

The turbo never spins backwards. The exhaust energy will always be great enough to keep the turbo spinning forwards, even while the compressed air bounces off the closed throttle body and flow backwards through a forward moving compressor wheel (surge).

even better. http://www.turboneticsinc.com/faq.htm#bov

Excuse me for my mistake. I meant to say that it reverses the airflow. I know its not good for any turbo i thought BB turbos could handle it better than non-bb turbos.

absolutely, BB turbos are better than non BB turbos for durability. They will handle it better, but it's still best to avoid surge all together like you said.
