I'd go with the EVO obviously. That's after a lot of my own research though. I don't think I've come acrosss a head to head where the STI wins out yet. You just have drive them both and get what you want man.

I have owned the VIII, an 05 Sti, and now the IX. The Evo is the one for me.
From your general attitude it seems that you're trying to figure out which car would be a better financial investment?? Well, if this is the case then I would have the say that both cars would be a waste of your money. They are both money pits. You have to really love cars and appreciate the heritage and potential of both vehicles to really enjoy them. Hell, I have been watching the WRC for over a decade and thats why I got into the whole rally platform. I was always a suby guy until I actually got to live with one. When I totalled it, it was a blessing in disguise!

I've been lucky enough to own both an '04 and then an '06 STI.
Being a track junky, the Evo IX is just a step forward for my needs(it's not a daily driver, mainly a track/weekend racer). Like everything you may or may not have read already, the Evo is a very focused automobile bred for track use right out of the showroom. It also happens to come with a monster-of-a-turbo compared to the VF39 on the STI.
The STI's factory suspension calibration and bushing compliance make it the better daily driver. Thanks to it's tiny turbo and 2.5L of displacement, it's a torque monster, and has virtually a bulletproof transmission.
I would LOVE to own another Subaru one day, but only in a wagon/hatchback configuration to replace my Honda Civic wagon daily-driver and stay under the radar. Forester STI ftw!!!

if u need a car thats reliable and would last for more then 5,000 miles and still have a warranty then get the sti ... but if you want to have a fast car for only 5,000 miles then get the evo ... : ) case closed
does the evo break down after 5000 miles, is this what you are saying?
