I cross-shopped the 06 STi and 06 Evo IX MR for a long time before decided on the STi. I'll echo a couple other members' statements that there are pros and cons to each vehicle. I'm very happy with the STi and probably would have been just as happy with the Evo. Making the decision either way was difficult as neither car is superior in every aspect. In the end, it's your car, and you have to decide which is better for you. If you come to an Evo forum asking which is better, the Evo owners will mostly tell you the Evo, that's a no brainer.

If pure speed is your goal, then the IX is where to look. I agree it's probably the better track car out of the box, especially with the incredibly light steering and engine with more lag.

Used to have a Legacy GT, Loved the boxer sound. Lots of torque. But the handling on the evo is just crazy!!

personal preference at the end of the day. very similar cars but different in subtle ways. do you know what your actual preference is?

I have the solution to this age old question:

Buy which ever one comes in your favorite color. Since its all a matter of taste, really.
