i just orderd one today and it comes with heatshield.
and this heatshield goes to the underneat of air filter. i dont think its good idea to have heatshield .dont u need to suck up air from the bottome (cool air) .? why do they have heatsheild for? i dont like complicated things on my evo. i want something simple...and heatshield also add weights.
give me some comment on this~ thanks and dont be hating ~

Goodness, haven't you seen the stock airbox? That's as simple as it gets for someone who wants to keep things simple. Do you see where the cold air comes from that goes to the stock intake? It comes from outside the car in front of the engine, not from down underneath. With this open-air intake, you are exposing it to the heat of the engine bay. The point of the shield is to block that hot air from the engine.

If you wanted to stay simple and suck in ONLY cool air, why did you buy an intake to begin with?

did u actually take a look on apexi power itake??? if not , u dont know what im talking about~

the reason i got open intake is that i like the turbo hissing sound and it also makes stock bov sounds just like aftermarket one~ and also gives u performance
and i m sure it will suck up more volum of air than litlle tiny stock air box.

the problem on the stock air box is that the size of open end where the air gets in. i m talking here about the air scoop (size of open end air entrance)
the size of air entrance (air scoop) is somewhat small.. the large amout of air couldnt pass it through from the little size of air scoop when the turbo is at max boost.
but when u have open intake ,.,,,it s wide open. the air rushes in from 360degree all the way around direction. therefor more volum of air could pass it through.
so u get more power~~~~~~more air more power

You're wrong, but I'm not surprised. All I needed to see was this:

"the reason i got open intake is that i like the turbo hissing sound and it also makes stock bov sounds just like aftermarket one~"

All I can say is WOW! After blowing a motor already, I would think you'd care more about things other than getting an intake to make noise. Amazing.

without a tune...you get erratic maf readings and poor idling

so I hope you plan to get a tune with this intake or it will most likely lower your car's overall performance

hey i also said i got this intake because of power, performance.

and read this one carefully~ it is my theory. i m pretty sure i am right on this one~

You're wrong, wrong, and wrong again. YOu haven't learned anything in the whole time you've been here. Where were you during the 800,000 intake threads over the last few years? It doesn't matter if you use the stock MAF pipe or not - you still have to get tuned for the intake, because it throws off the AFRs.

YOu already admitted it - you spent money on this so you could hear the WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH like all the ricer noobs even though you've already had an Evo and blown it up. I would have thought you got over the whole ricer whoosh thing with your first Evo, but I guess not...

If you don't install the heatshield that came with the Apex'i kit you will be sucking in hot engine bay air. Just put the heatshield on. With the heatshield the incoming air will be more cool, which means you will produce more power. Are you actually serious about the weight reduction part? By not putting the heatshield on you will only lose a few ounces. Is this guy for real?
