yes, u get more drone when driving on highway too since the pipe is sitting right in front/under the driver. heat-wrapping it would reduce some volume, but if not wrapped evenly u will produce heat spots on the downpipe and make it crack sooner.

Leaving the other parts of the car alone i didn't notice any difference.

Big changes in sound are the catback and the going to a test pipe.

perrrin downpipe, testpipe, go to an exhaust shop and have them bend a midpipe from the testpipe to the back flange right at the muffler. Cut open the stock muffler take out the guts, then weld it shut, you have a loud but yet efficent stock looking exhaust

 

I live in Fresno. I can't say that the cops are any more strict here than in other cities. I have a vague sense, though, that one is able to do far less with their car (modification-wise) in California than in other states. We have some of the toughest emissions laws in the nation because our air is among the worst. It's for a good cause, I suppose, that most hardcore mods are illegal.
