Is the Mazdaspeed3 faster than stock evo8?
It outran and outhandled the 2006 WRX for the Motortrend test, Edmunds touted "STI Speed, WRX Price". That still doesnt add up to an Evo but with a few mods I can see the Mazda 3 being a very capable sleeper.
from a stop definately not, by from a roll close race. My buddy got a speed3 and we did about 5 highway pulls and I only lost one because I tried to downshift to third while honking and that didnt work out to well. The other races I pulled but only about a half a car. I drove his speed3 and its quick especially in third gear and up, first and second you just cant get any traction. Oh the races were with both cars stock, 05 evo 8 vs 07 spd3
i can get the videos for you guys if you want. In the vids it wasnt as close as it was in the car, he was a good half car back.

A friend just bought one, and it's nice. 3rd gear pulls hard, but I'm with you all, AWD is where it's at! The Speed3 has mad torque steer and bad crash tests. It's a great cheap intro level to racing car. I'd take it over the WRX any day, but if I had the $$ to buy an Evo, I'd pass on the speed3.

very nice cars, and how often do u really race from a dig?
i rarely run digs on the street... and on the track u get get another set of rims for 200$ and put slicks on it... so u can have awd traction with any car for 500....
awd is just safer in the wet and close call situations.. unless u race ur car on a track

The Speed 3 is a nice car, but faster than a VIII? Well not faster than a 05 VIII at any speed IMO, but a 03 or 04 EVO VIII is possible. There are some very quick stock 03 and 04 EVOs, and then there are some that are really down on power stock. Some 03 and 04 EVOs have dynoed as low as 220-230whp range (dynojet) and I wouldn't be surprised if the MS3 was a little quicker from a roll than a 03 or 04 EVO only making around 220-230whp stock.
03 or 04 EVO VIII = MS3
05 EVO VIII > MS3
03 or 04 EVO VIII = MS3

The Speed 3 reminds me of the SRT-4, quick little car for the price and when the SRT-4 first came out, there were some quicker than 03-04 EVOs and sometimes the EVO was the quicker car, this is similiar to the Speed 3.

the IX 06 RS is from out the factory: 3219 lbs.
So 70lbs... So i think the fact they have only fwd is the main factor they are as fast as we are. But also they 300 cc bigger.

there's 2 in my area and everytime i see them(they must be friends) they are always together and wanna race, 1st time i was reluctant but the 2nd i pounded them both fron a roll(30mph) and the dig ,,,oh the dead start was'nt even a race(the beauty of awd
) im 38 and dont really dont like racing like that but ill be dammed if 2 kids wanna piecse of the the migthy evo 9!! and they say the evo looks like a kids car , you ever really look a that mazda3

i know the mazda speed is half decent car but i really dont think it compares as an overall sports car in any sense.
still, would like to hear of any other real world experiences of evo's against these cars.
