Is the Mazdaspeed3 faster than stock evo8?
Wouldnt it be in the same category as the srt4? I mean it has 260hp and gobs of torque, but is still a FWD. I owned 2 srt's and after spending too many times watching people walk away from me while I was trying to control wheelspin, I moved to AWD!! I think the car looks great and probably a good quality vehicle, but is in the same class as the evo??? I am not saying to evo owns all, but I dont think we are comparing apples to apples. If you wanna know if they are faster, go race one!
Dare I say it "it's still just a Mazda 3" hahaa... That's for all you SRT-4 haters... Now on a side note... I have only seen a MS3 at the local car show but, the MS6s for all the hp they have are pretty quick (though, i couldn't say how they are to a stock evo, since i"m not stock)... But they both suck for track racing, next time mazda does a MS edition they should give the thing bigger brakes (again, haven't seen the MS3 up close... but the MS6 has 215s all around and single piston brakes, come on, at least put dual pistons in.
MS3 are faster 0-60 and in the 1/4 than the MS6 stock
MS3 0-60 5.8sec 1/4 14.4sec
MS6 0-60 6.2sec 1/4 14.7sec

The weights are on there too, the MS6 is heavier than the EVO.

My friend has an 06 Mazdaspeed6. The Sport model which is the lighter of the two. He has CAI, which did wake the car up a bit. It's a very nice car.
My Evo has mods listed in sig... and I pull on him VERY easily. But it is an overall nice car. I consider it to be a luxurious version of the Evo. AWD, 6 speed, horsepower... but it weighs a bit and is much more refined... which means it also handles/brakes/accelerates sloppier for more of a luxury aspect.
Nice car but certainly not competition for an Evo.

They're lucky to break 13's w/ intakes and downpipes. Their clutch action is terrible from the factory, which requires tweaking immediately. It doesn't handle, brake, or accelerate like an EVO. No one who owns a Mazdaspeed6 will argue this fact either.
They aren't bad cars, though, Mazda did a terrible job marketing them. You can get one really cheap these days, too. But no one over there with any intelligence compares it to an EVO.
well R&T sais MS3 "The Mazdaspeed3's 0-60-mph time of 5.9sec " now R&T also said the 04 Evo 8 RS 0-60 is 4.4sec-4.8sec
and quater mile for MS3 is Standing 1/4 mile: 14.4 sec@ 99 mph (C&D)
04 Evo 8 RS Standing 1/4-mile: 13.5 sec @ 102 mph (C&D) ive seen reports as low as 13.1 sec.
so i would say the EVO8 FTW....nothing really close in those comparisions....

I traded my '06 Mazdaspeed6 GTS for my Evo.
Although they were NEVER meant to compete, Mazda never really defined what the MS6 was supposed to be. MS6 owners are VERY sensitive about every aspect of the car.
I loved my car, but due mostly to the limited production, complete lack of replacement parts and huge bugs (powerloss: reflash killed a lot of the tq. Diff brackets breaking) that never got worked out, I decided to cut my losses.
As announcement of the MS3 was released there was a lot of excitement about the increase in aftermarket parts for the MS6, but unfortunately all they share is the engine. And to this day the number of aftermarket perfomance parts come from 1 or 2 companies, and still the engineering is moving at a snails pace.
As for the MS3. I have heard good things about it. My friend is going to pick one up in the next few weeks, so extensive testing will be done (on a closed course

I read that tuning the MS3 is going to be a nightmare until someone makes a reflash for it because it has some type of torque control sensor and seperate maps for certain gears and situations.
From a tuner, this would be a pain to tune around for every power adder that would funk up the whole program that regulates power to the wheels.
