Now i raced a MazdaSpeed Protoge with my Bone Stock 04 WRX on the ramp from I88 West to 355 North its a dual lane rap with some nice twist...i took him easily from the outer lane too. As for the MSP3 i really cant see one taking on an EVO in that little stretch i mentioned.

Besides racing from a roll is like mastrubation...no mater how hard you try it can never compare to the real thing.

That is so weird how this thread came about because I personally was car shopping and I test drove the new GTI, Mazda3speed, and was very disappointed love the look. Performance you can't beat the evo out the box stock package once I test drove the evo it was a match made in heaven. I'm a torque man though I love being thrown back into my seat when I punch it.

you went from GTi and M3 to the Evo? thats a nice leap.

as for being a torque man, are you saying evo has no torque but plenty of spooled up turbo? i just dont quite get your last sentence?

Drove an MS6 (and still own a Mazda6s w/ CP-E MAFci). It felt nose-heavy and not all that much faster than my old 6. The clutch was very non-linear. Didn't buy it.

I haven't read through the entire thread, but I have to imagine that the EVO's AWD puts the car at an immediate advantage. More power to the ground, whereas these cars are spinning tires at WOT.

My $0.02

The MS6 is AWD. The MS3 is FWD, and has a torque-limiting mechanism when in 1st and 2nd gear which supposedly limits torque steer (and tire spinning too?).

I sat in one/almost managed to test drive one a few nights before I bought my IX. It's a very nice car IMO. I would definitely give its interior the nod over the Evo's (except for the seats, of course ) and the fact that it is a hatchback is quite nice too. However, at the end of the day, it's a FWD with gobs and gobs of torque. My friend has a low 12 second mk4 GTI and, though very fun from a roll, I'll take AWD in a heartbeat, thanks. Now, if the MS3 had a GOOD AWD system (that in the MS6 is supposed to be pretty crappy in the handling department, from what I've read) and a price close to what it has now, it's not impossible that I would've bought one instead of my car. But I've talked to enough SRT-4 owners to know that I definitely made the right choice in not opting for a high-powered FWD.

As for a race, based on what I've seen in magazines and what I've read here, I don't think a stock MS3 would give my stock IX MR any trouble even from a roll. I'm still not going to go out of my way to race one, though, because I respect it for what it is and hate the idea of making anyone feel bad about buying one. I'm not like that.

The mazda speed 3 (in stock form) put down 243 hp on our dyno. A stock evo puts down around 220 while a Mivec evo- around 240.

It was at AMS, and I'm not sure what they use.
