Boost gauge issues.

So I picked up a SW Boost gauge and got it installed, well kind of.

I tapped into the dimmer like suggested here:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=98114

1.) That didn't work very well. What happens is if I plug the blue end back in it seems I am drawing to much power on that circut and the bulb for the gauge does not light up. If I leave it unplugged the back light for the gauges dims to the point they are very hard to read at night but the SW gauge then lights up.

2.) In the process of taping into that line I have lost the backlighting for the HVAC controls and my radio. I assume that this is a fuse but have no clue which one it is?

3.) When testing the gauge it spikes to about 19/20 when I get into the throttle then settles to around 15/16psi. Is that right? I thought they held 19psi? I guess I need to log it and really see what is going on.

Any help on mainly getting my HVAC backlighting back would be greatly appreciated. I completley undid the wiring for the SW boost gauge light so everythign is back to stock and I still do not have those lights working.

If anyone knows of a better source to tap for boost gauge please let me know.

Thanks a ton!

It sounds like you blew a fuse or possibly a bulb. As far as your boost that's about normal. They only hold 19 psi if you have some sort of a boost controller on. I tapped the dimmer switch for my power source for my SW boost gauge. I would have to pull it apart to see what wires I used. I remember that I had to mess with them because when I would turn the dimmer switch up the lights on my boost gauge would go down.

Prez - The HVAC lighting is 99% a fuse issue.

I would just get a cheap fuse tester from autozone and test. They are marked if I remember. Its a good to have item. I can check around my place for mine - so long since I used one.

Now the 1% chance; Funny and not to scare you - I fried the dimmer switch on the gvr4 once doing the same thing. Cost me $40 from dealer, I think.

After that lesson, I tap into cig lighter location at all times or power/accesory power from behind the cd player. Easy 2 wire dealie.

Good luck - let me know what happens!

None of my fuses seem to be marked (inside the car), and the book that came with the car doesn't even come close to matching. I need to locate a correct layout.

If you have a fuse tester let me know I'd love to snag it for a few minutes.

The dimmer switch still works, so I don't think that is broken.

It could be the fuse under the hood.

And also, I went to the radio harness for my defi guage. There are illumination wires and dimmer wires in these cars. Im pretty sure the manual said to use the illumination wire. It worked out great for me. You guys should probably stay away from that dimmer switch area. I understand that if its a standard guage and bulb, you may want to have control over the light output but it may be best to just tap the illunination or parking light wire. And Chamwarrior is correct, if your car is stock, your boost is correct.

You didnt mention your mods so I'll assume your stock. That boost taper is normal. A boost controller will hold it better and remove the taper. Also you can remove the taper with a flash.

Yep I am stock, well I only have a TBE.

I'll check the fuses out, and run wires to the radio harness. Thanks for the tips. I really hope it is just a fuse.

Nevermind got it. Was fuse 20 under the hood. Weird they would use the same circuit as the rear passenger taillight in order to power the lights in the HVAC and radio.

Thanks for the help guys!
