Newb in an Evo, need a launch guide..

Hey,
Im fairly new in the Evo world, I know HOW to launch it, but my main question is, how do you handle the clutch, do you just drop it, or do you gently slip it a bit before dropping it?
Im getting a new clutch cause the previous owner ruined the last one - so I dont wanna kill this clutch with bad launches..
So, any vital info would be awsome

oh man i just read the whole thread...
ur going to kill ur clutch...
rev it up to 5500... there is a factory 2step that activates when youre in 1st.
now slowly let the clutch out to the point u feel its engaging. then put it in jsut a tiny bit so the cars no rolling forward.
when ur ready let the clutch out really fast DO NOT POP IT!!
if u let it out too fast the car will bog
if u let it out too slow youll burn the clutch
you should have it by the 3rd time doing it this way... first time youll bog, 2nd youll burn, then youll know how fast to do it...
if u dotn want to use the 2step and launch at 5k which is usully too low imo unless u have traction issue's which im sure u dont or youd be spinning like crazy launching wrong.
hodl the clutch int he same postion and hold the gas where ever u want it.
when u want to launch slip the clutch fast, as soon as you feel the car has moved a couple feet floor it, if you floor it before youre off the clutch youll spin or bog
good luck... i suggest trying it in the wet... so you just spin the tires.. it makes it harder to bog and harder to burn the clutch & break parts... just be careful not to crash it..

thanks now I get it. You dont push clutch all the way in(I was pushing all the way in) You find the point and hold it until u see the light. Then release clutch and press gas.
Going out to parking lot to test out.
Is it hard to install new clutch? I really hate my stock clutch. I get steep 1st, 2nd, and 5th gear. Went to dealer and tried MR but had almost same problem as mine.

its the same clutch in both... maybe couple different parts to make it fit... i have no idea, probably not...
stick with the clutch you have, beat that up then get a different one...
the stocker is good until you have to much power and it stops holding it and just slips on the launch

Funny...sure I can see that. But THAT video is like taking something out of context. The only thing that the real video proved is that you can pretty much abuse the hell out of an STi tranny and not break the tranny's internal parts. The video was both irresponsible but yet impressive. Gotta give credit to Subaru for building a strong tranny. Actually, I read somewhere that it was Caterpillar (CAT - makers of heavy duty machinery) that built the STi tranny.

It shows that even a strongly built tranny like the STI's will not take stupid repeated launching. Furthermore proves QUICKLY to newbs what not to do.
So in this light how is it out of context?
