what's the best and quickest way to launch an evo from rest?

i keep hearing different opinions on how to best launch my nearly stock evo from rest. do you drop the clutch at 4000, 4500? is that too hard on the clutch / transmission? how much can the stock clutch take?

flash your ecu to enable a two step launch limiter. Set it around 5000-6000 rpms. Floor the gas pedal, bounce of rev limiter, dump clutch. Have fun breaking things!

That's messed up. Why do you want to set the guy up for failure like that?

Probably because he didn't bother to search or get any real info before posting as a newbie without going to the drag racing forum or newbie forum, which is against several rules.

I am a newb just like yourself "wootevo" but searching is your friend. Get a tune and set your 2-step to 5,500-5,800 rpms whatever you choose. Floor is and bounce off of your 2 step. Give the clutch a QUICK slip and then hold on. Do NOT just dump the clutch, unless you have a s**t load of money sitting on the side to replace your transfer case and clutch all the time. Go to the bottom of the forums and click on the "Drag Racing" section. Do a search there and you will find all of your answers.

Or because it isn't setting him up for failure at all, because that IS the right way to launch an Evo. If you're going to "actually" launch an AWD car, things will break...

That was kind of my point KOEvo. Why would a noob (yes I realize I am one as well) want to launch his car without properly researching the correct way of doing it. I wasn't questioning your methodology.

Have you checked the Driving Techniques section. Or the Drag section? There's a lot of helpful info there...

Do not drop the clutch...and please search...

Advance search quick slip and Warrtalon, Clay has a nice write up and video on how to launch w/o the 2step

When/if you get flashed for the 2step, here is my 2step tech (as a bit more in it but the 2step is in it):

In my opinion this is the quickest way to launch a near-stock Evo. It just happens to be the most damaging for your drivetrain =)
