Question About Radar

I have a Passport Escort 8500 x50 and i was wondering when it picks up the differnt bands like Ka K and X what does each one mean? Through the day as i was driving each went off but I didnt see any police and how far does this radar detect up to.

from what i have read, they are all different frequencies of radar.

X is an older frequency, it isn't used as much anymore, mostly it is things like automatic doors (such as the ones in the supermarket) that use that band the most now. however, i have heard of sneaky cops, or ones with older equiptment still using the X band. from what i understand it is rather uncommon though.

X Band is older radar technology. Some small towns still use it but not very often. I know for sure some towns in West Texas still use it bc I drove through there last year and picked up a cop in a mustang hiding. Automatic doors also put out an X band signal a lot of times.

I was thinking about getting a radar detector, but a lot of the ol;d brands didnt work well so I shunned them off. Are the new ones really this good? worth the $300??

Mine has saved me at least 10 times... Add up those tickets and insurance rates and it is well worth it. It's not going to save you if you drive like an idiot all the time, but will keep you in check for the occasional spirited drive.
