9 mr shock problem

hello all,
I recently purchased a new 9 mr. it currently has 500 miles on it. the front right side of the car has developed a tick noise when the shock is loaded and unloaded. I have a appointment with the head mechanic in the morning. I was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem.
thanks

I have that same issue. Front right side. I'd like to know what you find out about it.

I've heard mine do it a few times. If you do a search here, it seems to be a fairly common issue. Has something to do with the spring turning, binding, then snapping back when the shock is under load.

hmm interisting. I thought it might also have something to do with the spring. it happens enough to be noticeable at low speeds exp if its bumpy. I don't think our cars should do this. I will let you know what goes on, thanks for all the replies.

Okay well I searched for it a little bit and came upon this thread.

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...Bilstein+shock

It quite long 21 pages dating back to 2003 or 04. It seems that the clunk is coming from the spring rubbing the perch on the strut. On some ppls EVOs the dealers took some rubber tubing to place over the area and that took care of the problem. Others still have it. It came down to one of those "live with it" deals. I think that is unacceptable so im still gonna go to the dealer and see what they do.

The wierd thing is that some have it and some dont.

Anyway time will tell i suppose.

Put it this way... mine had a slight clunk at slow speeds if I was going up a ramp with the wheels cocked in a certain direction. However, I've only noticed it three or four times, and that was when the car was brand new. Fast forward to today, and that sound is gone. It would be difficult for me to miss as this happens everytime I drive into my garage. Anyway, the point being is... give it time. My theory goes along the lines that sometimes, and especially with new cars, the springs may not have fully settled yet. During that period, suspension noise may or may not happen.

I've noticed similar things after installing coilovers in my M3. Giving it some time, they eventually sorted themselves out. I wouldn't be so quick to find fault with your Evo. It is an Evo afterall, and most vehicles will develop odd noises at one point in their service life. Enjoy the car. If after 500-1000 miles you still have that noise, then yes.. have it looked at. But I wouldn't worry too much about it unless that noise is also accompanied by steering slack or genuinely odd suspension behaviour.
