larger exhaust piping

Alright, this may be a dumb question, but i am going to ask anyway.

DOes anyone know how much it would cost to increase the stock exhuast piping form 2.25 inches to 2.5 ... or would it even be worth it ? Better sound maybe from mangaflow muffler too maybe?

maybe also add a little more hp? along with adding a test pipe as well?

thanks

2.5 is probably overkill for an N/A engine... 2.25 should be more than enough if its mandrel bent... test pipe would add lil hp, but probably not too noticeable to the butt-dyno, plus searching would give the same answers I bet... all diameters are pretty much played out over and over!

I've said it about 3 dozen times and I'll say it again. With an intake 2.5" is NOT too large. Dyno proven gains across the powerband on Buschur's 2.5" cat-back. And for the record, the stock exhaust is not 2 1/4". It's 2".

Don't expect to FEEL any real difference, but it'd show up on a dyno.

I agree, 2.5 is NOT TO LARGE, I have a 2.5 cat-back on my lancer OZ, and it is NA. along with the RMR Intake, I think my car runs great. I noticed a decent gain after getting both done...............
and Just another note..the stock exhaust is 1 5/8"...I asked the Techs at work.

Yeah, the 2" I quoted was outside diameter. Most exhausts are just round measurements ouf outside diameter since the thickness of the piping is pretty much negligible.

but so the best way to find out how much it would cost is probably just go to a exhaust place and ask?

Ya, most places should do a estimate for free.

Andrew, are these dyno results showing HP or torque? It's a general rule that increasing exhaust piping size increases horsepower but decreases torque.

My understanding is that 2" or 2 1/4" piping is best for torque on the NA Lancer, and 2 1/2" is the best choice for turbos and if you drive highway (more top end and better gas mileage), but please correct me if I'm wrong on this. I'd love to see Buschur's dyno sheets, since I have no concrete info on the matter as of yet. (and because I actually respect your opinion, Andrew)
