Upgrades: what's best?
Upgrades: what's best?
i decided to do upgrades to my lancer. i've been looking around and i don't really know what the best thing to do first is. i don't wanna spend as much as a turbo. what do you guys think is best? air intake (if so which one: RRM, K&N typhoon, AEM)? high flow cat test pipe? chip? also, if you could give me stats as too perofrmance increases that would be great, thanks (sites don't really help alot with this)
Intake/exhaust will give you probably 5-8 at most 10, but doubt that high
chip would be nice, but rather pricey since you have no other mods and I believe that they depend on them
I would go with intake/throttle body/exhaust... prolly yield about 10hp and some torque..prolly cost about 500 total after installs and such
Intake - Short Ram
RRM - has nice heatshield and K&N cone filter
Injen boasts good #s, with dyno graphs.. but pricey
Cold Air Intake
Again injen has good #s, most people go with them or AEM
Exhaust theres catback or axel back...
most people choose to do custom setups cause its cheaper.. it all depends on if you want a honda/lawnmower exhaust or a more throaty one... but custom is the way to go here
throttle body go with RRM, 5mm overbore, will help for future mods!
maybe test pipe if you wanna keep changing out for inspections

he mentioned the cold air's but that's only if u have a 5-speed,
i've heard good things about the RMR Short ram... so i got that one... still expecting it in the mail
but the intake should do about 5 hp... exhaust.. depending on whether or not u do the catback of jus an axel back will range from nearly nothing to about another 5 hp
and basically everything psionic98 said
u basically wanna free up the air flow... oh... don't forget a down pipe

does anyone know the best intake? cold air intake, complete cold air intake, or short ram? and from which company. everyone says something different. what does AEM, RRM, K&N, and Injen have to offer or higher performance?
I have the Short RAM Intake on my car made by RRM. I personally reccomend this product if you are looking for a deep sounds tone coming from your car, but you can barly feel the differnce in power. But it sounds really good.
well... from what i've heard... the gains from cold air intake compared to the short ram aren't that large... and again... sometimes your forced to get the short ram (like me), but if you were to go with a CAI i've heard some pretty good stuff about the AEM... the K&N is fairly new for the lancers... so not too many people have that...
there's a poll going on this topic.. so search it... see wat people are saying

See.. I made a poll on which was the best intake... The result was that the AEM had the highest... But as you know, AEM and the INJEN CAI is just the same, its just the brand.. I would say that if you wanna keep your Lancer as an N/A car, just get a CAI.. That is if you dont got floods in your area.. But me, i live in the pacific and it rains all the time, I still got the AEM CAI.. It sounds badd and you can feel that pull on the acceleration... And now, i ordered the Greddy Evolution CatBack exhaust... They said that it had lil' issues.. Like burnt bumper and all.. But i cleared it up wit pearlwhiteoz.. And he said that theres nuthin to worry about.. So yeaH!! Good luck and hope you enjoy modifyin your Lancer!

Why don't you check out AEM's website? They have dyno plots, as do most manufacturers. Asking people for info like this is going to take WAY longer and net WAY nastier answers and less accuracy than checking the site yourself.
Then again, I'm not inclined to trust manufacturer's dyno results.

i say go with the aem cai, then get a custom cat back exhaust. then, get a testpipe. rrm has a really nice testpipe for only 69. then headers. then maybe get your throttle body bored out.rrm offers those upgrades. you can basicly get everything at rrm so ready that credit card. hehehehe
thats that for basic mods.

I don't know if you care about warranty but from what I hear this is the scoop:
short ram will not void warranty except on the parts you replace. but cold air apparantly take some affect on warranty issues.
as for the exhaust as long as you don't touch anything from the cat to the headers you're fine. an axel back won't fudge with anything warranty wise.
again thats just what I hear. I went in to call my dealership on all this as they tried to BS me before, but the guy I needed to talk to was on "vacation."
EDIT: This is in canada, and I"m not sure if its different for the US
