I was at the dealer and learned the same thing - 5 gal container. So I asked, "How much is in the container you currently have opened." So the parts guy looks in his computer and says, "half full." I bought that one.

There is only three places you can drain gear oil from.
1. Tranny
2. Transfercase
3. Rear Diff

Those three places will change ALL the gear oil from all the diffs and tranny. The front diff and tcase use about half a quart and tranny uses a tad under three quarts.

When u say gear oil...do u mean transmission oil? Thats what always gets me confused whats the difference between gear oil and transmission oil?

Also, as you mentioned that there are only 3 places i could drain gear oil from...so does that mean that if i drain it from the tranny it will be drained from the rear diff aswell? doesnt make any sense to me??? Please explain....Thanx
