Magnetic Kill Switch

I am looking into buying a IX which has a magnetic kill switch. It was supposed to be dealer installed. It is mounted under the steering column. You have to put a small piece of metal near this circle on a box which enables the car to start.

A Mitsubishi dealer near my house has warned me that this will void electrical warranty on the car. He also asked why would they do that. The key has something it that will not allow the car to start without the key.

Is the warranty void? It this something I should be concerned about?

My past experience was dealer installed options were typically warrantied.

Thanks in advance.

They can pretty much do what they want but that doesn't mean it is right. A switch will not effect the electrical system's functionallity. So, under the MM act your warranty should still be intact! They would have to prove that said switch caused said problem, which would never hold up Play hardball!

Thanks... so far nothing to deter me yet.

I was thinking it would be a good idea to run the VIN through a Mitsu dealer to make sure there were no previous aftermarket parts they may have voided previous owner's warranty. The car appears to be stock other than the kill switch.

Thanks again.

I just got a call from a Mitsu dealer about another car.

This one is an SE with 4K. I went and saw it. Exterior is perfect. Issues are the clutch is being replaced by the dealer and the tires are bald. I know these cars are made to run but man alive, 4K miles, this car seems way to beat on.

Thoughts? Stay away from it?
