no manifold heat shield?

no manifold heat shield?

hello i just bought an evo 9 mr. i found out that it doesnt have an manifold heat shield on? is it safe to drive without it? sorry im new to evos

i dont know why it's not there probably the previous owner took it off? i bout it used =)

another question, will the manifold burn the hood without the heat shield? is it better to have one on there? dont laugh at me i dont know much about the engine stuff all i know is to drive this beast. thank you =)

I have an aftermarket MEGAN header. No shield...no issues. Looks PURTY.

If your manifold is the stock cast iron unit, I'd go and spend a few bills and buy a nice aftermarket shield...Say for example the ARC polished TI heat shield =)

It is fine, just ugly looking. It is possible that the previoud owner had a turbo kit on the car though.

or the previous owner had a aftermarket heatshield covering the stock manifold, took it off without replacing the stock heatshield, and sold the car.

Whether you need the manifold and hood heat shields depends on how you use the car. For normal DD use the answer is no. For track use where the underhood components get a lot hotter you probably should have them. I heard from an autoXer driving a DSM who threw a cooling fan blade after racing without the manifold heat shield.
