Are evos high maintenance car?
You should see what maintenance on the Enzo costs
But I guess to have a kickass piece of machinery, you have to keep her in tune to stay kicking. Like jets. I never knew the amount of of mechanical requirements those things took to stay airborne =S
Something tells me I better memorize some chiltons before I buy/own any type of Evo....Am I right? I can rebuild a 350, but with all these wires and ect with new cars, it gets confusing...

It all depends how you drive it... I have a friend with 20k on a ix with just a tbe and tune and hes still stock everything... even tires and brakes...
But me for example i beat the **** out of my car.. By 20k i was on a new clutch, new plugs, new tires, new brakes, new rotors, 3rd set of tires, all new fluids, etc etc etc at 28k i stripped my 4th gear and needed all new internals on my tranny.
Cheers!

I origonally got interested when I saw the Top Gear video of the lancer pwning the V12 Lambo on the road course. That and something about the new GSR just lights the fire of interest. I dunno... I want something good on gas, but yet a great roadcourse car, and something for the local rally tracks as well. Something that looks good, and has had a good name thats carried over. Something that the family can use for their everyday tasks, and getting the grocery. It seems unless you have above "decent" money, you really shouldn't own an Evo from everything I'v read on here. I'm not putting anyone down on their budgets, I just feel discouraged about this now. None the less, I enjoy challenges, and tuning/messing around with mechanics so it's all good, right?Btw, sorry if I'm thread jacking love, lol.

for me, my main complaint is spending so much money on gas (because i fill up every 4-5 days). that's my problem though - using my evo as my daily.
cept for fuel is from 150-400 a month depending on how much and how hard you drive. evo is a very strong car, and people drive them very hard. thats why it becomes expensive you need to keep everything good if you plan on driving it hard.
Very true. I was confused at first when I saw what catagories Lancer fell in. I thought they were all high tuned performance cars. Seems they have even FWD stripped family cars, eh... Then my friend Hector taught me Evolution gave it a whole new meaning, so I'm learning...
I'd say it's a great price to pay for a terriffic car like it is.

It just depends how you drive your cars.... the 80% of people on here that have issues with their cars drive them hard and dont drive them properly...
I killed my tranny cause i shift hard and fast... My car has at least 400 launches on it but has never broken an axles, transfercase or rear diff....
I would suggest having $1500 on the side extra... Nothing just breaks overnight, its always the drivers fault. I knew my tranny was going out for 5k before it finally gave out..
The only real maintenance is....
tranny fluid every 10k $45
transfer case fluid every 10k enough to do it 4-5 times is $50
oil change $40 every 2-4k depending how you drive
Stock tires usually last 10-12k
I dont want to scare you out of it, but most people buy a car having exactly $700 in their pocket every month. Just enough to cover the car and insurance, then when somethign breaks its the end of the world and they have to sell the car.
Cheers!
I echo the sentiment here that if you drive it decent and don't rag it, you'll only need the regular maintenance - tires, fluid changes, fuel, etc.
Slip the clutch easy (but not too much) and don't slam the gears - that should be a good start. Just doing those two things (even if you drive it hard in every other way) should not be too bad.
As for fuel - yeah I maybe fill up two times a week at about $38 a pop. That's like $329 a month in gasoline alone!!! I think I may be buying a weekday beater soon. It would pay for itself in the amount of money I'd save on gas.
