Question of the Day

if EVOs are so fast, why are so many of them modifying them? i bet i could get more power, better performance, better looks for less than the $14k more the EVO costs. i'm aiming at $8k to outperform the EVO.

good luck
first unless you have the money to put a 4g63 in your lancer it will never out perform an evo. but if you you just made an evo. the engines we have are just not made to withstand the kind of stress that 19psi puts out (evo stock boost). with every mod out there you are still limited to about 11psi mabey 12psi

but to answer your question to make them faster handle better and look priettier (the u.s. lancer still looks better)

The evo isnt just all about power. Thats what corvettes and mustangs are for. The EVO has awesome handling. A much better stronger engine. The US lancer engine is weak. Are you planning on converting your lancer to 4wd? Im sure thats a couple stacks right there. And to answer your question why do people modify them? Because your car can never be too fast. People modify vipers, vettes, and beamers all the time.

yes.
i get asked why i don't buy an EVO to start with if i plan to mod it.
i say it's alot more, i got a $3,000 mitsubishi rebate, and anything i buy i'll modify.

good looks

the lancer OZ is a great looking car. the only thing i don't like is the grill. i'm getting a new one (EVO wire mesh like the EVO) for only $169.
my point is to put an engine better than the 4g63. it won't cost much more (maybe even a 6 cyl). if i have $14,000 to play with (the difference between the EVO and the OZ), i can do alot and probably do better than an EVO.

When I had my lancer I was never even thought to try to compete with an evo. My parents told me I could get a new car for less than 17k. And the lancer is one of the best looking cars for that price range. The basic bolt ons are fun to do and dont require a lot of money up front. Once you start trying to compete with the evo your going to be spending thousands at a time.

but the evo is 14k more. do you know how much HP you can buy for that kind of money. i would say about 400HP. the evo is 272.

better deal

what if you could have a lancer(OZ,ES,LS) and faster than an EVO, but you spend thousands less? i'm going to call mine an OZr or OZ-R so others know it's not a stock 120hp car.

it'd be cool to see a V6 under the hood of a lancer, but good luck. I dont see any way (even with the $14K you're saving) that you can make your OZ out perform an Evo. It'd take thousands and thousands of dollars to put an Evo engine /Tranny combo under your OZ... plus, you still wont have AWD. I'd take a stock Evo over a modded Lancer anyday... my $.02
