Stupid question...oil changes

How often would all of you recommend doing oil changes? I had always thought that everyone did it at 3000 miles but the mitsu dealer said only needed to be done every 3750. Any advantage to doing it at 3000 (i'm doing it on my own so cost isn't bad).
also, any difference using the cheapest oil I can find (that's API certified) as opposed to pennzoil or something?

Thanks for the help

I change mine every 4000, but that's only 'cause I use synthetic. My rule with fluids is....anything that's cheap, probably is.

And as fer yer question about how many miles to expect out of yer Lancer.....

My dealer told me I could go 4000 miles if I wanted. But I do every 3000 just to be on the safe side. As far as using cheap oil, I wouldnt reccomend it. Use Mobil 1 or something. Good stuff that you can find down at autozone for pretty cheap.
