An Evo 8/9 reliability with bolt ons - Question
Hey guys, I tried searching for this answer but was unable to find any relevant facts on this. My question is simple, if you take an Evo 8 or an Evo 9, assuming each car was driven properly then could these Evo's sustain 360 - 385AWHP for a DD?
Reason why I ask is because I am in the market looking to buy an Evo. I see a couple good deals of 30 - 45k mile range Evo 8's and some Evo 9's that have a lot of bolt-ons coupled with the stock turbo and a tune. Most of these Evo's have 360 - 385AWHP and their owners claim they run great and weren't tracked/etc. etc.
The reason why I pose this question is because I'm not new to AWD turbo charged cars. I currently own/(am about to sell) my 2004 Subaru WRX. Although I love the car, it had a lot of problems from the start. To make a long story short I had to get my transmission rebuilt about 10 months after ownership (I never tracked the car and I owned manuals cars before without a problem) As it turns out the previous owner beat on the car and I had no idea of knowing this.
So naturally when I buy my Evo I want to make sure that I'm not buying into someone elses tranny that is about to go/etc. etc.
CN: About to buy an Evo, wanting to know if DD Evo's can handle 360 - 385AWHP if driven responsibly
Thanks everyone!

yes except it wont "drive" like stock with that power range... it will drive like stock until u do cams and/or turbo... by drive i mean starting out at a red light, and, uh, actually thats about it

The 5 speed can take more power, but both transmissions should be fine below 400 WHP. That said there is no guarantee that you will not have to rebuild the tranny. If the previous owner abused the car damage can be done even with the car completely stock. If the previous owner was careful and a good driver than the transmision could be sound with 400 or more WHP.
Good Luck

with cars like that there is no way you can base the reliability on power alone. The tranny, if maintained and operated properly, has been shown to be fine at well beyond the bolt on power level. But... people with nearly stock evos have also destroyed their trannies. people beat these cars to hell, so be careful. this is exactly like buying your wrx
