Evo 8 not pulling hard?

Hi Guys,

I read this off from one of the members who was shopping for an Evo8. I created a new thread so I dont go off topic on his...

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...evo-xearo.html

Xearo was looking at the same car that I was bringing into Vacouver, BC. Althought I didnt get the chance to visit it in person, he had the opportunity to do so. He said that the car "didn't pull" as he expected to. Now with respect to him, I dont doubt his opinion to the car, Im actually jealous because he had the chance to test drove it so yeah. I just need some inputs/reason why this Evo8 performed like that.

Here are some info:

- 05 evo 8
- 25k miles
- fully stock (as far as i know)
- one owner no accidents (seen the carfax report)

Evo is my dream car since I was at home on a Sunday playing the Grand Torismo on my Playstation. It was the older EVO back then. So yeah, I will be picking her up next week. I hope she'll be as hot as I expect her to be...

Here is the same car posted in Autotrader:

I mean, maybe he just had it built up in his mind to be something more than it was actually going to be. It's an Evo, they're pretty quick stock but it's not like getting rear-ended by a freight train or anything. Or maybe, it just needs a tune-up.

As long as it pulls smoothly through the powerband and doesn't buck or hesitate or anything, I'm sure it's probably fine.

Do a 40-100mph roll on int 5th gear and video it, then watch youtub video pulls to compare.

sounds like a boost leak to me! Very common and will make a Evo power curve flat

Wut? Ya, illegal street driving - great idea.

Log at legal speeds, boost leak test, dyno test.

If it was modded in any way, ie boost controller, check to see that it is not just running off of wastegate pressure which can significantly reduce its performance.

hi guys,

thanks for the useful replies.

i will look into doing some tests. i had our evo inspected by my trust-y mechanic. he didnt find anything major headaches. it has a leaking inner cv boot in the rear. the clutch is kind of high too. he said that its a sign of wear and i will have to change it by winter/spring depending on my driving habit. we gave it an oil change too. the oil was filthy when i picked it up. well be changing the tranny and diffs soon once i get a hold of the fluids...

its my first time owning a turbo car so thanks for your help so far!
