should I make the switch? 350z to EVO 9..help me?

( mods if this is in the wrong section feel free to move it )

Hey fellas!

Ive been reading this forum for quiet some time now! Doing some research, searching what my best options are. Even though I know somethings about the evo, I gotta learn more.. Finally got a chance to join today.

Well first of all I have a supercharged 350z. Iam running 400rwhp 370rwtq.

Iam thinking of making the switch to an 06 GG evo 9 MR. Iam still not 100% as I do love the Z and the power. I have put a lot of work into it. AS much as i love the VQ35 motor, when it comes to FI, a none FI car is not meant to go FI without some serious money and build motor etc. So iam afraid of the long run reliability .

I always loved the evos.. but ive got over 80K miles on the Z and like i said i love the car but i guess i just need something different you know. but i do not want to regret making the switch. Its a very hard decision.

another thing why the evo is a plus is because of the snow. The Z is terrible in the snow. Even tho I dont mind it bc i dont drive it when it snows ever.. but still the EVO is a plus there.

what do you guys think? will the evo disappoint me ??

Ive read the 4g63 motor is bulletproof and ive seen many of you on 500+ whp stock block.

I still gotta do some more research but... what do you guys think? power wise..

-how much would it be to get me to where iam in the Z? 400+ whp? ( i know 400whp in the evo would be a lotttt of fun! )
-any sort of mod list? what I need etc?

I know this is an evo forum and im guessing everyone will say get an evo lol.. but just be honest, help me out!

thanks boys!
-Vas

if your looking for just 400whp.. yeah, "just 400whp" then basically what your looking at is *at minimal* is an intake, turbo back exhaust, a tune at around 25psi, and meth. injection.. or same mods. but instead of the meth. run E85.. and you should be at around 400 to the wheels on the stock turbo..

Oh snap where in Westchester are you? I'm in Scarsdale. Anyway I would go with a IX (obviously I'm a little bias), they just make power so easy. You can achieve 390-400WHP on the stock turbo with E85, but you'll be running alot of boost. You would need all the bolt-ons to get you there as well. I'm doing a Red on E85 on mine as we speak, if you want to know what a 500WHP stock block Evo is all about .

It depends on what you want rwd or awd. I like both but my evo is a DD all year around and can't complain how it handles in the snow. Power wise I think the evo is easier to mod because you have more open space in the engine bay and parts are not that pricey. Don't get me wrong the Z is a cool car but dollar for dollar i think the evo is the best bang.

that doesnt sound that bad.. what would it take to run that on just pump 93? how much boost can the stock IX turbo can handle ?

to be honest.. rwd or awd.. doesnt really matter to me.. in the Z i never go drifting or anything so.. it doesnt really matter.. what sux is that i cant catch traction at all haha.. so I guess awd would be better..

I think so too.. the Z needs a LOT of money to get power out of it.. especially when going FI..

are evos reliable at that power level?? I know a lot of people even run into the 500s on stock block.. I guess the tune is the most important thing.

If you can find a good clean IX go for it, you will love the AWD.

I live in Illinois and I love using my IX in the snow. RWD, not so much.

basically if your looking for 400whp on 93 octane, it would be best to go with an FP Green or FP Red turbo. The stock IX turbo can handle 30+psi, but that is only for pure race applications. Most guys on here go with the FP Red turbo, on 93 octane, and their mod. list generally includes.. intake, turbo back, manual boost controller, upgraded front mount, lower and upper inter cooler piping, cams, 255 fuel pump, 850cc injectors, and a tune..
With this your probably looking in the 410-450whp on pump gas, depending on where you set your boost levels.. and mid 500 whp on Q16 race gas.

The FP Red is hard to beat as far as the performance you can get out of it, for the $ you spend. Check in the drag racing section and you'll see a 9.0 pass out of the FP Red.. of course the motor is built, and what not.. but, you can see what it can do in the right hands with the right build..

and also.. as said before, I wouldn't get the MR.. The 1st gear is just too weak in them, so go with the 5 speed GSR or RS..
