Evo, either VII or VIII
Hello,
I'm looking forward to buying my next car in the next few months. looking for an EVO VII or and VIII whatever I find that is priced well and clean. Here in Lebanon,
got the VII so I can find one that is local OR a RHD VII that has been switched to LHD (not too keen about that). As far the VIII goes, it could be USDM or local (LHD JDM) as well.
The Evo is gona be a DD and it's gona stay that way for quite some time. I have been researching the mods and reading reviews for a short while, although I'm not new to FI there's still a lot of Evo-specific info to learn.
Mod list so far:
- Not sure if I'm gona go with a TBE, my plan is to install HFC & a QTP cutout exhaust (along with a maps for both situations)
- Walbro Fuel Pump
- MBC
- BOV (HKS SSQV so far)
- Gauages (Boost & AFR) unless I can do with Evoscan alone
- Wideband
- Intake (HKS or Buschur Racing Air Filter kit w/ CF Shield)
- LCIP
- I plan on getting the GPS EvoScan and tuning with EcuFlash (and the stock ECU 2-map switch)
- I'd also like to get a Harness Bar with a 4-point harness
No plans for exterior mods (stock suspension & rims). No plans for a big turbo (might upgrade to the Evo IX stock turbo in the future though).
Haven't researched cams (street) yet, but probably gona stay away from them as I think I'm better off without them on a DD.
Still need to research the Evoscan GPS and the QTP and decide if they are the way to go or just go for a TBE and get the PC (and much cheaper) version of Evoscan with a Low/High boost maps...
I've already mentioned that it will be a DD so reliability, maintenance & driveability are my main concern.
Any suggestions & thoughts are welcome

From what I have learned so far is the Evo 8 is heavier. The Evo 7 is lighter but still has the torque vectoring technology but it is not as great stock. So personally if you are going to change the cams and the turbo anyways I would go with the lighter Evo 7. But I also like the look of the Evo 7 (especially the GTA with the Evo 8 lights and interior). If you are switching the steering wheel around then go with the 8. Also if you are not planning to daily drive it I would buy one with the carbon fiber roof and extra bonus parts but still has a air conditioner.
The evo 7 was basically a prototype for the 8/9 should never have even been released. It was a fail and practically every mechanical part was improved transitioning to the 8. This also reflects in price as the 8/9 literally cost 3 times more in some cases. Not to mention the major updated visual improvements. No idea where/when people started comparing the two just because they are ct9a. They are worlds apart. evo 7 has more in common with the evo 4/5/6 if you ask me..
What things were actually improved
, not including looks and hp numbers? My understanding is that everything the Evo 8 has can just be moved over to the 7 or upgraded which he plans to do it seems. The 8 is over 400lbs heavier from what I have read. I kind of agree that the 7 was in-between the rest but not in a bad way, it gained improvements. I would never buy an 8 though because I am not in the United States I am in Canada so I can just buy the IX MR with two piece brakes and all that.
It was a really bad decision on Mitsubishi's part to not sell more models of the Evolution in North America when Subaru started becoming big. Toyota did something similar with the FJ, it was ten years too early. I am pretty sure that Subarus have the most clubs in Canada and most of the Subaru owners would switch to the older Evolution if they could even if only to be different. Also look at how every darn Evo 8 was bought up and modified in the United States of America. What is funny is that it is almost certain that every single one of those N.A. Evolution 8s actually came to Canada before being shipped by train to the U.S.A. as we are a few thousand miles closer to Japan than L.A. ports and most of the products in the USA comes through Canada first which was good because it didn't cost Americans anything because of the Free Trade Agreement. I think we started taxing them for everything since Trump started taxing us for a couple things we got from down south.
I think the 8 has a nicer interior but they used my evo 7s GTA dash in the Evo 8.
