Not really. Simple bolt ons the 9 has an advantage particularly if you want to spend as little money as possible. You can hit 360whp pretty easily with full turbo back exhaust and tune because of MIVEC and the 9s turbo. To get those numbers on an 8 you'll need cams (which means a few extra bucks.) Having said that, I'm at 350whp with 272 cams and have the Evo 9s 10.5 turbo housing. I'm also at 119,000 miles and no mechanical problems.

I've owned an RX-7 and yes, they are fantastic, however, the apex seals typically fail around 100K miles. Plan on a new motor once every 100K miles.

The rx7 is a beautiful car. Very hard to compete with those lightweight monsters. But they are extremely impractical. I need a car that works while performing. A car that i wont have to stress over whether it will break down on me or not. Rx7 owners are overly cautious about theyre cars breaking down, thats a big enough sign for me to not bother with one.

OMG what a dumb comment to make....firts of all i give you props for having an evo 9 with 150k miles but dont forget the evo 8 was the first one to have 200k miles. How does evo 9 have a much better interior lol, its the same besides the seats and for your info a lot of people prefer the evo 8 fabric. The only thing that makes evo 9 stand out is the mivec and the bigger turbo, which in evo 8 can be fixed by droping in cams, and aggressive timing, oh yes in evo 8 you can run a lot more aggressive timing than evo 9, did you know that??...come on guy dont be like one of those evo 9 owners....ALL evos are great, too bad we didnt get the previous years but i would not mind owning any of them from evo1 to evo x.

Not to high jack but look in my signature.

This is a bullet proof daily driver that you will never have to worry about!

Get an RX7 with an LSX conversion or an Evo 9.

Yeah man. Love them, but after the second motor in college I was broke and needed something more reliable.

As far as which Evo to get (VIII or IX) it really depends on how much money you have up front, what you plan on doing after you get the car, and your personal preference. A friend of mine had a IX MR and I loved it. It would fit my life style better than my Evo VIII. However, he loves my VIII. He wants to build a race car and would prefer my VIII over his IX and ironically, my car better suits his needs. One of the guys on our local forums posted a review and difference between the VIII and the IX. Most of the info was compiled from EvolutionM, SoCalEvo, and evo-ny. The thread is several years old but still relevant. Hope it helps. http://www.tristatetuners.com/forum/...ead.php?t=8662

Also, if there are Evo owners that meet in your area, that may be an opportunity for you to check out both cars and see which one suits you better.

Honestly, i think im just gonna roll with an 8 since theyre cheaper to buy. All im looking for is a solid, reliable car that i can drove whenever i want comfortably. Im not looking to build a 1000hp monster(yet lol).

Don't forget to tell him about the 6 speed tranny, ODUB. It's weaker.....isn't it?
