what would you do?

So its getting closer to getting a new car(sti or evo). Ill just talk about my evo options on here. I do have a total price limit and options i want. I do want the SSS( if i get GSR) and navi. My question is, would you guys get a GSR and add a Perrin stage 2 kit or get a MR and keep it stock. my price limit is say 38k. I always said that a sports car should have 3 peddles but the twin clutch systems are coming along and if they are good enough for super cars then i figure i could give it a shot. I might even be able to swig a 11 SE and still add the stage 2. but i want a wing!

I hate making expensive decisions.

This car will be a DD with 2 kids riding in the back 50% of the time too so a stage 2 car might just be a little over the top. This will also be the most powerfull car i have ever owned(stock numbers) so even a stock GSR might be enough to make me cream myself. I do own a sport bike and even the fastest evo will be slow compaired to my stock VRF800 but thay are 2 different animals.

Thanks for any advice in advance, and i have been reading around this forum for months and watched about every youtube vid i can find.

If it were me, I'd opt for the 5-speed, get a good tune, and call it a day. I'd also seriously look at a STi Special Edition.

BTW, what does your bike run in the quarter?

You could always get the SE and find somebody to swap trunks with you. It's likely you could find someone that wanted to do it.

I've driven both, though, and wouldn't trade my GSR for an MR. The novelty is great, but it wears off quickly. I have a hard time with flappy-paddle gearboxes in general, though. Unless the car is such a monster that the few extra tenths required by a manual shift significantly slow it down, I'd rather have the pleasure of doing it myself.

It looks like Perrin's stage 2 is basically intake/exhaust/non-custom tune, and you could have that done any time. You might be better off without the AccessPort and using ECUFlash instead, depending on where you live and what tuners are near you.

I use my EVO for a DD. My son is 6'2 and does well in the back seat. As far as the stage 2, i thought about the Perrin, i was actually able to do it slightly cheaper by pieces. Listen to the exhaust clips or find some guys in your area that have different exhausts and see what is right for you. I know i have to do some sound deadening on the under neeth due to the exhaust echos off what used to be where the muffler was. But right out of the box the EVO MPG sucks. If whether or not you plan to continue to mod it get a tune done, even if it is using the Cobb Ap. Hope this helps, others will give their opinoons also. Any questions feel free to ask, but makes sure you search since the flame monsters will tell you to do it anywhat. Welcome to the forum and you'll love the EVO.

I'd get a GSR and mod it. I have lots of Perrin stuff on mine. If you'd like a ride to help with your decision, lemme know! Always happy to help.

I'm perfectly happy with my MR stock. I got the Cobb AP and tuned it, I was unimpressed with the difference in power (and all its messed up issues with the MR) so I returned it.

Even if you get an MR, you can still do a little bit of modding.

thanks guys. pleases keep opinions comming.

For the poster asking about my bike. It is a bone stock Honda VFR800. the cycle workd says it does the 1/4 mile in 12.2. thats slow in the bike world. A stock hayabusa off the showroom floor will run mid to high 9's all day long and costs 12k new

looks like the map is not the cobb map and a map perrin has done with there exhaust and drop in filter. it saves buying in a bundle too. 1999 for all of it( AP, CBE, drop in filter and they throw in a short antenna thing)

Your original comment piqued my curiosity, that's why I asked. FWIW, that's what a stock-ish IX runs with a decent driver; I'm not sure how the time figures into the X. Best of luck with whatever choice you make. I can only suggest after being here for a time that if you do have a preference for a manual gearbox, stay with it.

I have a highly modded 03 gsr and a stage 2 09 wrx as a daily driver. I think a sti would be a better choice for a daily driver with kids in the back (though the wrx has proven to give the sti a run for its money in the straight line, and save you 10k). The evo is awesome, but its a more harsher ride. If you are going to go past stage 2, then I would go evo. This is my opinion having the pleasure of owning both cars.

Get a X and call it a day. STi is nice, but engine doesn't hold up or respond to mods the way the 4B does.

Believe me. This is not a biased opinion. I love the STi. Buuut, with that being said... Evo is just plain better.

I have both a MR and a paddle shifter in my other car.

I love both and to each his own, but I would prefer paddle shifting going forward.
