I would def. double check your insurance rates. I just cant see full coverage being only 250 a month, for an 18yr old with an evo X.

It's not worth it especially when you're young. Put that money towards education. Trust me, you'll thank me later.

I can see it now...first person that passes you on the highway in your "invincible" Evo is going to get your hormones all worked up, and you'll turn into every other a$$hat kid in a performace car.

Real dumb by the way to plop down $19,000 in cash on your first car, especially in this economy. If you really have a death wish and want an Evo that bad, get an older, less expensive Evo, and keep most of that money in the bank to pay for your funeral.

And before you reply to this email saying how hard you worked for this money and how you deserve to buy whatever car you want with it...

You know what? I would LOVE to buy a Porsche GT3 RS, but it's not going to happen. It's more important for me to pay my mortgage so I don't have to move back with my parents.

wow the only 2 that actually had good recommendations
1. no one should ever have a Evo for their first car, almost everyone destroys their first car, sometimes the second one too.

2. Put that money into education or a house\condo it your school is already going to be paid for some how. You'll understand later if you don't understand now and you'll be waaaay ahead of the game if you do.

3. Even if you can afford an evo right now, living at home with your parents, doesn't mean you'll be able to in a couple years when your at your own place or at school. The maint. on these cars is high, and insurance goes up with tickets, if this is your first car YOUR GOING TO GET ALOT OF TICKETS.

4. I don't know how many kids I've heard dead from owning a awd sport car as their first car (usually a Subie oddly enough). It seems to happen about 1-2 times a year in my area.
usually its some rich kids where mommy and daddy bought them a awd sedan thinking it was safe not realizing that it keeps up with ferrari.

Hey everyone' my name is Cody and im 16... i love Mitsu's and have plans to attend UTI... i love cars and learning new stuff! I live in Avondale (UTI Campus) and looking for a job ( car related if possible but idk) and i know it says i DRIVE a 09 Lancer Ralliart but the site just asked me to fill it out so i did... I do intend to get one SOON ( i have a really good plan to get one) or i can wait til im 18 and have enough for an 09 Lancer Evo MR... tough choice! but ask me question if you want to know something but other than that ive been looking at this site and i LOVE it Thanks for taking ur time to read this

I make roughly $1000 a month... that times 24 = $24,000 (than subtract $4000 for just w.e i may need to buy during the 2 years) and then i can put a $19,000... its about $300 a month and then i have a job set up wen im 18 already so ill have another $1200 a month for bills living in an apartment with 2 rooms and by best friend (09 WRX STI) as a room mate to pay half the bills; so thats about $500 a month (SUPER GOOD APARTMENT) and leaves money for gas; food; and savings for upgrades good plan? kinda needs revising"

Ok now keep in mind here even if you save 19 grande up to put down on this car, and you are making 1200 a month and living with a roomate you are forgetting some calcs

1. Car =300 a month with good credit (you are probably looking at more like 15%+ for your apr on a first time loan so try more like 400+ car payment)
2. Insurance-you say you got quoted 250 a month so we will go with that for now
3. Gas if you drive alot you will be spending at least 200 dollars a month. Figure a fill up a week at least if you are driving alot (yes 200 is a little bit much maybe)
4. Food/spending money etc....

so right there thats 750 dollars plus your misc bills rent as you stated before is going to be about 500 dollars that is already over your 1200 a month income you say you will be making and i do not know if you are saying after taxes actual take home pay or before taxes. Either way you can see Logically it does not make sense that you will be able to afford a Newer X. You would be better off as most people have pointed out getting an 8 or 9 and saving the rest of your money or just waiting till you make enough a month to pay for the car as well. Trust me it does not make sense to blow your money on a dream car just to have it sit parked all the time becasue you cannot manage to pay for it totally.

These cars are not cheap to maintain. Just really think about it and let yourself calmly think about the car vice just getting into the car and having to sell it later at a loss to you because you cannot afford it and need the money to cover bills and debt you incur while trying to stay afloat.

Im not trying to talk you out of it but clearly you are not taking everything into account, you are assuming too much best case and not enough worst case.

I actually did calculations and the 09 lancer evo mr I was orginally planning would have been pushing every penny I got! So I chose a vehicle that costs half that, seeing as I will have a good $40,000 in the bank before I put a down payment on the car, and with my job ill have that by the time I'm 18 (2years, just turned 16 a month ago) so its not like I'm throwing all my money down, I'm just putting a lot of it, and I have housing worked out with a roommate( best friend for 13years) and we will only have to put $500 in a month MAX! And I will have a job wen I'm 18 so I can make steady payments in FULL every month for insurance and car payments, gaining some credit too! And yes I'm A LOT more mature than most people my age, keep in mind I'm only 16 now...

Like I said I have a job at 18 already set up, I will make well over $1200 a month and I obviously won't buy it unless I feel confident I'm making enough. But its not like im just stepping right in there wanting an evo, I know my limitations and I know how hard it will be! But I'm sticking with it til the end, right now my parents gave me a truck so I have a vehicle... (not using, job is close) so if anything I can fall back on it and wait.a few more years.... but I AM buying an evo as my very first car I PAID for... I have thought about bad and good case scenarios, but it IS POSSIBLE for me to do it, just is going to be hard... I like a challenge too!

Thanks sooo much EvoM for putting in all your advise! Its much appreciated!

Don't get me wrong, I understand you're enthusiasm to own an Evo, especially at 18, but one of the worst investment decisions a person can ever make is to put all of their money into something that is going to lose at least 50% of it's value in the next 5-7 years. I don't know your finances or your job situation but if buying an Evo is going to take every penny you have now, and for the next five years, then don't do it! If you're dead set on owning an Evo my suggestion would be for you to get an Evo 8. You could probably pick up a nice one with decent mileage for less than $15K. You'd be able to pay cash for it so you wouldn't lose any money paying interest, you'd still have about $4K or $5K left in the bank, and if you really wanted to, you could cut the insurance down to liability only and save a boatload on insurance (although I suggest keeping full coverage to protect your investment). Anyway, just my .02. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
+1 man, getan 8 if you REALLY want an evo...then invest the rest in an education.

GO TO COLLEGE. even if you didn't get the grades in high school for a scholarship, you can still go to a community college. I remember being 18 and wanting the hot s**t car, but i'm glad I took the route I did by going to school, finishing my education, and getting my commission in the military. There are plenty of options for you; if you need any more info on the subject just PM me.

Just to add so people cant stop saying "its dumb and use it on a house or education" Im getting an apartment, my friend and i BOTH are paying half so there goes the "house" thing and i am getting in UTI for SUUPER CHEAP! practically nothing; im friends with one if the best instructors at UTI and ive helped him alot and he knows im serious and so he helped me towards getting in... so PLEASE stop sayingthe same thing over and over, and im not going to just plop down my money; i will wait to a certain amount so i know i have enough money; BTW this is going to work because if anything SUPER bad happens my friend's grandpa is a millionaire and he inherits $500,000 at 18, BUT WE ARE WWAAAAYY MORE MATURE THAN YOUR AVERAGE TEENAGER! We have talked about it and $250,000 is going into two banks ( seeing is how a bank only insures $250,00) and its going be saved, and i do have a vehicle given to me and i will pay all my bills, food, gas ect... with a job! IM NOT relying on the $500,000 for ANYTHING!

So i hope this clears some stuff up; once again, im not average, i put way to much thought into everything... it may not seem like it one here but im not typing everything (bills, food, gas, how much i drive, am i going to have a job, education, housing, APR rates, insurance, car maintence) maybe missing a few things but you all here at EvoM are helping me ALOT <3
