My FIRST car has been decided! :)
your not even finishing highschool??? do you realize what its going to cost you to pay for housing, food, gas, insurance, car payments, maintence
Thanks your ALOT of help you deserve and award or something lol but i called them back and for full coverage it is going to be $350 a month, bad... but good for my age and all

I appreciate you taking my previous advice into consideration, but there's still a lot that you're not soaking in. I manage an insurance agency and Progressive is one of the carriers that we sell... while you might be comfortable with $250 per month for insurance, what exactly did they mean by "standard insurance?" They might be talking about the absolute bare minimum, which no Evo owner should have. If you finance the vehicle, you'll already be required to have full coverage, which I doubt that quote was for at your age with this kind of vehicle. And about the IX, it is a lot more to insure than a X in almost all scenarios. Trust me.
The Evo will outhandle the STI pretty easily, but are you really that concerned with being able to whoop your friend's car? Unless the loser has to pay for the other person's rent, then I don't see why you'd be so eager to own the guy. That aside, the Evo is definitely more fun to drive in almost every way.
MOST finance companies will allow you to have deductibles of $1,000 or less, though as you noted, there are a few here and there who require $500 deductibles. Regarding liability, most finance companies allow you to have whatever the state requirements are. However, in the event that your vehicle is leased, then they require you to carry higher liability limits (usually 100/300/50 as you mentioned but I have seen some that allow 50/100/50).
The X is a lot cheaper to insure, and I'd say there's less of a market for used ones. Seeing how the OP is only 16, I'd imagine that he hasn't mastered stick (assuming he knows how to drive it), so perhaps the transmission of the MR is one of the reasons why he has preferred it so much. Either way, it helps reduce the likelihood of him messing up (which is possible when any inexperienced person is driving a stick since they might not instinctively do what they should do), plus it's a much safer car.
But prices don't exactly compare with other states. You're in Miami, which is already in one of the more expensive counties to insure within Florida, which is already one of the most expensive states to insure within the U.S.
Insurance in Virginia is pretty inexpensive compared to most of the country though.
OP, maybe you should hold off on making threads until you're actually 18 (which is when you intend to purchase the car), which is two years from now. All of this chatter is really pointless.

Im just like trying to tell everyone thats what im getting... lol like the money thing isnt that BIG of a deal, honestly the bigger deal is which one should i get... i am getting defensive tho, im going to be honest; but im also not in the same situation as everyone else, and my friend and me are suuper good friends, so yeah hes a big part of my life... wish everyone could just be happy for me... im in a REALLY lucky situation. Im not one of those stuck up snobby kids. im just truely excited about my future! MAYBE everyone is right and its all good to keep in mind, and trust me and thinking about ALL the advice EVERY single post in this says... im definatly thinking about waiting til im like 21-22, and get my life straightened first; and thats the majority of the reason why i posted this NOW instead of when im 18... so i can get advice on what to do, and you have all changed my opinion and plans very much! in a good way
and thats why i love this site!
and thats why i love this site!
you are saying you are much more mature..... talking about your friends grandpa being a millionaire and your friend this..... not very mature.....
There are plenty of fun, cool cars that you can buy for TONS less than an evo x
Honda s2k
09 ralliart
03-04 evo 8
350Z
mazdaspeed 6
you are just being defensive because there are a bunch of 29 + year olds who have made the same choices you are going to make and we all have learned a few things over the years.. Not having a car payment is AMAZING, nothing like it in the world!!! Buying an evo while in college is just a very dumb idea period, whether its your first car or not. Drunk college kids, evo nuff said.... but just in case, drunk jealous kids that see your evo = 1 messed up evo...
rather than get defensive about it, learn from it. I sold my evo and am building a NA honda crx si, my mortgage, going on trips to Jamaica and having fun in life is much better for me than living my life in an evo... i will soon own another one but thats the greatness behind not having $600 + going out for a car payment. I will end up just paying cash for another 8 because of that.
i own my car, pay $60 pm for insurance and get 25 mpg with a modded car no matter how i drive it and i get to have a lot of fun with life...
heres my advice - find a fun car that you can pay cash for and get a fun car... lets just say you can pay cash for a $10k out the door for a car
leaving you $10k in your bank account
take $5k and put it into a Roth IRA and leave the rest in your savings account...
Your $5k will earn start earning you money in a Roth IRA and you will have $5k left over in your bank account for anything that may happen.
if you are as mature as you say you are, then realize that we are trying to help you and take words of wisdom from the same people that have made the same mistakes and struggled between the MOD sickness and car payments and high insurance rates at your age.
Putting your money aside to make you money is a HUGE part of your life down the road... And that is one thing you can never start to early with.
okay,
done

Another thing is don't rely on other money income, like your parents $50k, too much. Still remember my friend thinking he was getting a crap load of money from the gov so he got a brand new Jeep and bought a lot of things for the house. When the check from the gov came in, he had to return the Jeep and declare bankruptcy.
Another incident is when another friend thought he was getting a lot of tax return back so he just bought all his studio equipment because he wants to be a sound engineer but when he got the check, he sold everything he just bought for half the price.
You don't have to listen to me but I'm just saying, don't rely on free money too much. Although I would suggest getting an MR Touring Edition instead of just an MR. More comfortable to drive and comes with the duck tail on the trunk. Don't know bout you but I'm a fan of that duck tail.
The kid has reiterated time and time again money isn't the issue. It is clear now that mom and dad are buying the car, and paying the insurance and what not on it. All this **** about him paying for it himself is a protective shield so he doesn't get flamed. Chances are he has no money (like every high school kid), parents are rich, his buddy's parents are rich, the kid and his buddy are two ricers who want the Evo STI battle to rage after science class every friday night in the high school parking lot. Sweet dude, get a EVO X and put a HKS BOV on it.
End.
End.
