Id have to say I agree with the masses. I would wait to buy a brand new Evo X. All of us on here do understand your love for the Evo. Hell, we own one. But I really doubt you will find to many 1st car Evo owners. As mentioned many times before, these are a high performance car and they do require high cost maintenance. Not only that, insurance cost for inexperienced driver's may even cost you more than your monthly car payment.
I waited till i was 27 to buy my first Evo. Not only was this better cost wise but my experience as a driver is far better than when I was younger. Im in no way judging your driving ability, but I beat the crap out of my first 2 cars. I treat my car now as if it was priceless. I would have loved to do the same for my first 2 cars but as a teen youll find there an many things youll desire besides just a car.
If you absolutely need to buy an Evo for a first car, I would highly consider looking for a 8 or 9 that you can pay cash for. You will do yourself and your credit score a big favor for your future. If you dont believe me now, I promise you, you will later on in life.
No matter what you decided to do, good luck with the purchase and your first car!!

I can understand your desire to get an X, but like has been said, it's not a good financial decision. Sometimes the cost to keep this thing going makes me want to consider getting some cheap DD to tool around with. They are EXPENSIVE to operate, what with the expensive oil changes, maintanence, insurance, gas, etc.
Just be sure you're gonna be able to foot the bill, especially if you're planning on going to college.

I actually did calculations and the 09 lancer evo mr I was orginally planning would have been pushing every penny I got! So I chose a vehicle that costs half that, seeing as I will have a good $40,000 in the bank before I put a down payment on the car, and with my job ill have that by the time I'm 18 (2years, just turned 16 a month ago) so its not like I'm throwing all my money down, I'm just putting a lot of it, and I have housing worked out with a roommate( best friend for 13years) and we will only have to put $500 in a month MAX! And I will have a job wen I'm 18 so I can make steady payments in FULL every month for insurance and car payments, gaining some credit too! And yes I'm A LOT more mature than most people my age, keep in mind I'm only 16 now...

you are saying you are much more mature..... talking about your friends grandpa being a millionaire and your friend this..... not very mature.....
There are plenty of fun, cool cars that you can buy for TONS less than an evo x
Honda s2k
09 ralliart
03-04 evo 8
350Z
mazdaspeed 6
you are just being defensive because there are a bunch of 29 + year olds who have made the same choices you are going to make and we all have learned a few things over the years.. Not having a car payment is AMAZING, nothing like it in the world!!! Buying an evo while in college is just a very dumb idea period, whether its your first car or not. Drunk college kids, evo nuff said.... but just in case, drunk jealous kids that see your evo = 1 messed up evo...
rather than get defensive about it, learn from it. I sold my evo and am building a NA honda crx si, my mortgage, going on trips to Jamaica and having fun in life is much better for me than living my life in an evo... i will soon own another one but thats the greatness behind not having $600 + going out for a car payment. I will end up just paying cash for another 8 because of that.
i own my car, pay $60 pm for insurance and get 25 mpg with a modded car no matter how i drive it and i get to have a lot of fun with life...
heres my advice - find a fun car that you can pay cash for and get a fun car... lets just say you can pay cash for a $10k out the door for a car
leaving you $10k in your bank account
take $5k and put it into a Roth IRA and leave the rest in your savings account...
Your $5k will earn start earning you money in a Roth IRA and you will have $5k left over in your bank account for anything that may happen.
if you are as mature as you say you are, then realize that we are trying to help you and take words of wisdom from the same people that have made the same mistakes and struggled between the MOD sickness and car payments and high insurance rates at your age.
Putting your money aside to make you money is a HUGE part of your life down the road... And that is one thing you can never start to early with.
okay,
done

Put your money to work, 19K down on a car is not a smart move, you will loose half of that just in depreciation in the first 2 or 3 year of owning the car and thats by keepping the car free of wrecks and clean tittle.
put your money to work for you,,,, put down 5K on the IX and finance the rest, better engine 4G63,,,,

You're not asking for advice. You're asking for us to tell you what you want to hear. You've been given the proper advice at least ten times here and you're not open to accepting it.
Your friend's inheritance should not be your back up plan. I give you credit for planning out finances at your age, but your fundamentals are all screwed up.
You came in here asking for advice so I will give you some... Listen as if you might be wrong, even when you know you're right.

Insurance for a young buck like yourself is going to pricey even with a perfect record. As far as your decision, it seems like a good choice. But do you really need an Evo X. A few posts up, a guy lists some other cars you could have fun with. The evo costs alot of money to maintain. I am a Staff Sergeant in the Army, and sometimes I ask myself why I drive an Evo. I could have bought a new civic si sedan and be just as happy. My 06 Civic SI coupe was a blast to drive, and very affordable. But if you wouldnt mind living paycheck to paycheck, and bumming money from other people when your car goes down, then by all means, live life on the broke side and drive that X. But you should listen to some of these guys on here. Im almost 30 years old, and have been where your at. I didnt take the same advice you are getting when I was younger, and that was stupid of me. Do the smart thing here, focus on your future and saving money.
Hell there was a brand new private that showed up here to fort hood, pulled up in a brand new viper. Im expecting a high ranking official to step out, only to see it was a private first class. I about passed out to see how dumb that kid was. BTW his car has since been repossessed lol. That was a funny thing to watch when his NCO's were saying I told you so.

Hey man, these guys are saying the car value with depreciate in 2 years, so if the price drops enough and you're set on it...well then try it. No doubt it will still be expensive and you have to make sure that you're so called garunteed job will be there for the next 5 years. If you simply cant afford it sell it?? Otherwise consider a 9. They're getting way cheap and that would leave alot of room for mods because you say you have all this money or will atleast. Buy some evo x seats put them in the 9 and who cares about the rest of the interior. If I offend anyone with this comment I'm sorry, I'm just trying to look at both sides of this situation and meet somewhat in the middle.
I hope everything goes well man and good luck!

Just to add so people cant stop saying "its dumb and use it on a house or education" Im getting an apartment, my friend and i BOTH are paying half so there goes the "house" thing and i am getting in UTI for SUUPER CHEAP! practically nothing; im friends with one if the best instructors at UTI and ive helped him alot and he knows im serious and so he helped me towards getting in... so PLEASE stop sayingthe same thing over and over, and im not going to just plop down my money; i will wait to a certain amount so i know i have enough money; BTW this is going to work because if anything SUPER bad happens my friend's grandpa is a millionaire and he inherits $500,000 at 18, BUT WE ARE WWAAAAYY MORE MATURE THAN YOUR AVERAGE TEENAGER! We have talked about it and $250,000 is going into two banks ( seeing is how a bank only insures $250,00) and its going be saved, and i do have a vehicle given to me and i will pay all my bills, food, gas ect... with a job! IM NOT relying on the $500,000 for ANYTHING!
So i hope this clears some stuff up; once again, im not average, i put way to much thought into everything... it may not seem like it one here but im not typing everything (bills, food, gas, how much i drive, am i going to have a job, education, housing, APR rates, insurance, car maintence) maybe missing a few things but you all here at EvoM are helping me ALOT <3

You as well don't make sense....
why push yourself financially if you don't have to? Not to many people in this country are PROMISED their job at this point. This is why this country is sooo messed up, lol. People OVER buying just because they can or their credit allows them to.
There are so many negatives in this situation:
1. first car
2. high insurance cost
3. pushing himself financially
4. at college with an evo, this in itself just isn't safe,
5. mod bug
I don't care what anyone says, I was 20 when i had my evo and have had many modded cars before that and it still took every ounce in my body not to drive the evo like i stole it.
Being smart with money allows you soo many more things in life... Drive a decent car through college that gets good mileage but yet you don't care if someone puts a door ding in it.
invest some of the money you have saved and when you are out of school - you should have saved and earned enough money where you could pay cash or finance the evo much easier.
Make life easier for yourself, especially when at school.
any financial advisor/planner will also tell you to have at least 6-9 months of bills saved in your savings account at all time.
put that in your mix of peanuts and have fun with that...

Sounds like a BS thread to me. However, I would say if you're going to dump every penny into buying the car you might want to get a career in 18 y/o prostitution to maintain the damn thing. I don't know how nervous I would be with a modded Evo making minimal salary, because a $100 repair (minor) or a $5,000+ repair could be right around the corner.
Pickup a cheap civic <7k and drive that for a few years. The total ownership cost of a evo especially with those types of insurance rates are ridiculous. Doesn't matter if you can 'afford' paymets + insurance... new tires and new clutch there goes $1500-2k. You will either bankrupt yourself or end up selling the car and/or raping your credit. What type of credit do you have? Have you been quoted on a loan? You are going to get raped on interest. I hope you have a good job lined up.
It's a terrible investment for a 18 year old. Wait til you are at least 20 imo.
