Well after some research and excitement, I finally tried to see if I could launch my evo (93 Evo - I'm in Japan). I'm pretty new to stick shifts, but I am catching on real fast, I've been driving around everywhere (lots of money on gas!) to get some practice. Well anyway, tonight I was driving around and I decided to give it a shot. I pinned the RPM's at 4500, and dropped the clutch and slammed the gas. I did this a few times, with the same result...the tires squeeled and my change flew all through the car! I'm not really sure if they were good launches or not (probobly not considering..) but I enjoyed it none the less!

Rev it up to about 5000 or so, slip out the clutch quickly, but don't just drop it!!! An awd launch is all about the slippage man, too slow and you roast your clutch, too soon and you bog it!

Quickly slip it out, and keep the accelerator fully depressed in the meantime! Also, look around for an upgraded clutch while you're at it, you'll need one sooner or later.

 

UH, take it easy.............. or you are gonna find parts dropping off. If you are new to a stick then you should just pactice driving, and not worry about launching like it is a top fuel dragster.

Be patient, it will come naturally.

 

No, it doesn't come naturally! Heh, it takes a bit of time and lots of practice to get a good AWD launch down. However, you shouldn't beat the car down though.

 

I've been driving a lot since I've gotten the car, can't really tell I am new at it now. Last night it was raining and my friends and I decided to go to the drift pad....I tried that a few times and I did pretty good, I couldn't make it around the second cone, but I almost made it! It was awesome, there were a couple of Japanese drifting teams there, they were really good.

 

The trick for drifting in our (AWD) cars is keeping the throttle depressed... It takes a bit of gitting used to, because your first reaction is to let OFF the throttle, but if you keep her depressed then she'll pull herself out.

Of course it takes practice...... Lot's really, but in the end it's well worth it eh?
