The STI is the life of the party until the EVO shows up.

My definitional would be just normal driving the car. I know a girl who owns an EVO that just daily drives it, never launches, never drag races, never pushes the car what so ever. IMO it's a total waste of the car, it's whole point is street car that can drive to the track and lay the smack down.

However for those who use the car to drag race, auto x, HPDE, rally, etc. Well this is where it will start to take it's toll on the gear box components faster than your average car. For me this is expected and accepted. You have to pay to play and it's completely worth it IMO. The performance and durability of the EVO is phenomenal for it's price and platform.

You didn't answer any of the questions. Clearly, a direct reply would not be complimentary to your claims.

Q"Would that be defined as babying it?"

A"My definitional would be just normal driving the car. never launches, never drag races, never pushes the car what so ever."

I did however miss the first question about what kind of power, which I'm not sure if you were asking what do I consider to be gobs of power that trans holds up to, or if you meant what kind of power levels are the trans showing the symptoms I mentioned.

To answer both, 650 awhp is pretty easy walk for a EVO 5 speed tranny. You start to get over that and they will still handle it (obviously) but it starts to get a little sketchy since you're generally shifting the car at much higher rpms and a lot more stress on everything.

The cars that I've seen first hand with failing transmissions components which were not babied range from stock to 440 awp.

Perhaps you're missing my point of the og post? I'm not dissing or unhappy with the drivetrain of the EVO, as mentioned I think it's a very good design and set up, it's just not going to hold up in most real world situations for a long duration. There will always be exceptions for both sides of this debate.

According to your claims then, my transmission should have dropped through the bottom of my car and exploded by now then? I'm at 170,000 miles and I have NEVER babied it. Can't count how many launches I've done on it, and how many times it's seen WOT/Redline, and to date I've had a total of ZERO issues/noises/anything out of the ordinary with my transmission.
