Should I EVOlve?

I need some good advice! I currently drive a honda civic lx, not the most exciting car, and my lease is up in a few weeks. I have the option to buy the car but would much rather have a car that I actually will enjoy driving and if im going to pay for it, then have it be a car i wouldn't mind keeping for a long time. I love the evo and know its potential and its an amazing machine. They are having a great lease special for $350/ month with probably $4000 down and for 4 years. Sounds incredible!!! Im a college student in Tallahassee so money is a we bit tight but my budget can afford it-ish. One of the things I am worried about however is service on the car. There use to be a mitsubishi dealer and service center here but they went out of business and the closest one is in georgia, 80 miles away . so thats one dilemna. I've read so much on these cars good and bad and im a little scared. I am mechanically enclined but if its something under warranty, i want them to do it and for free. Im not going to abuse this car! ive abused my honda and am not very happy about that. im not ever going to launch this car; no hard shifts; and only give it about 75% throttle when driving and put a smile on my face haha. if its going to be 100% then it will be rare....Very Rare!. but i am worried about just something random going wrong with the car and it needing service and either having to drive 80 miles or flatbed it the distance. I don't know of any performance shops around here either and I wouldn't want to bring my car to one of these, bit sketchy shops around here.

so this is really where i need help. should i buy the car? does anyone live in or really close to tallahassee that has an evo or even just any mitsubishi? What are the true warranty issues that are most common with the X? No modding will be done to the car for a while. I Might use the car as a ginnea pig and make some parts for it but not leave them on(exhasut, intake, etc.). just for fun and practice(Im studying mechanical engineering and we have an amazing machine shop).also,This might sound dumb but, do you remember how 3000gt's were mechanically identical to the stealths? you could probably bring the 3000gt's to a dodge dealership and have it worked on and possibly under warranty(back when they were new) right? theoretically. cause that would be great if i could bring the evo under warranty to a dodge dealer, even though there are not any mechanically identical dodges that i am aware of at least. the dodge is literally right down the round about a quarter of a mile. that would be great!!!

Thanks a lot for reading this thread and please assist. any answers are great answers. Hopefully soon I will be a true part of this community

Lol thats what you think.. Wait until you're actually driving it.

Are you working part time or full time while in school? $350 sounds like it would be a little tight. I would calculate all of your bills in a worst-case-scenario kind of way. If you got some extra left over then I would seriously consider it. Goodluck!

I know I know it sounds fishy but deffinetly no hard shifts! i have heard this clutch is crap and if it were to go, it would be a heafty price to pay and i would buy a stock one again and would have to go with a bit more expensive aftermarket one. And i have driven a ten before. I probably gave it but half throttle at most and my eyes lit up! my friend said to give it more but its just so much different then the civic lol. i sound like a child. but i know it would be rare, i respect it to much to beat on it. my friend even said it "i k now how you drive your civic but i do honestly think if you got an evo you would respect it much more." i do feel as if thats true. you owning an evo would for sure know though bout the lead foot coming into play. it being a lot different from the civic however, much faster even at part throttle will deffinetly excite me. The brakes are amazing too!!!!! god like!.

Im not working at all right now lol. last year i had a great job and was going to school at the same time so i was able to pocket alot of that money. and 350 is close to what im paying now (300) and im cutting away excess money that ive been spending. my roomate talked me into the whole package from comcast which eats up about $70 a month so im going to cancel that and just hit up the gym(free) more and get back into sports lol. as well as a little more here and there tweaks but im determined to get this thing. i know you dont have a X but what do you think about the service issue? and thanks a lot dude!!!

The clutch is good imo. Alot of people love the clutch, even after using aftermarket ones, and it lasts a long time if driven correctly/not abused. You should wait until you are out of school and move someplace with a closer Mitsu dealership. Your money troubles will lighten a lot once you are out of school and working. Evo cost more than a civic to maintain, so that has to be taken into consideration. You have a lot more fluids, lol.

have you even factored in insurance cost? if 350 is tight-ish i wouldn't do it. Focus on school, you'll have plenty of time to evolve

If youre looking for advice as to whether or not you should buy it, it probably means you should wait. Wait until youre 100% sure you can handle the worse case scenario (pretend you have no warranty). They will be making these things for a while and you can always buy used.

As for the service issue, i live about the same distance from a Mitsu dealer. I have similar concerns to you (flat bedding it, long drive for service). When it comes to regular maintenance and warranty work that doesn't immobilize your car, youre on your own. Talk to the dealer and see if you can put a plan together that would cover you or cover you partially if you ever have to put it on a flat bed for warranty covered work. If theyre understanding in any way, theyll work something out. Mine did.

Good luck and hope to see you soon in the community.

Does your S/N imply that you go to FSU and are in fact a Seminole?

i know the evo will cost more then the civic in payments...and insurance..... and maintenance....lol, but once i figure all that it will be easier. the insurance shouldn't go up much if at all really cause its on a family plan and we have a lot of benefits on it, but i have the number of my insurance agent and am going to call him tomorrow and get a quote. i just don't want to keep my civic and keep putting money towards that if im not happy with it lol (i am pretty stuburn if you can not tell)

how much are you guys paying in maintenace roughly? is there any other places that would be considered mitsubishi qualified other then the dealer itself?

And yes i am in fact a seminole, proud of it. we have a pretty descent football season lol

If you can get a crashed one that has not been beat up bad that way when you build it up and your done with it you own it. You dont have to make payments you can always look up for parts on this site very useful. And when your done with the car you dont have to worry about falling behind in payments.

You will have atleast the knowledge backround in working on this car. Thats what I am doing it will benefit you in the longrun. People wont offer you alot for this car salvaged but hey its a recession you still wont get your money's worth anyway when you sell it so the hell with it.

Yup, that pretty much answered my question right there.

(I'm just messing with you. My dad is a Gator. He was pretty disappointed this year. I am a Blue Devil, though, and this is my favorite time of the year.)
