for a noob, you've done excellent research. depending on which brands you buy, you may hit 315 - 330ish on a good tune on 93 octane. for example go with something loud but free flowing like buschur and you'll get excellent gains, compared to fujitsubo exhaust which isnt so free flowing but is considered "stock" quiet. cams can also be aggressive like 280degrees, or you can be "wussy" and go 264. fmic isnt a bad thing to get either. boost leak test before tuning session is a must also. THEN maybe you'll hit 350+ whp.

its gonna be tough to do this on $2500 unless you get some killer deals. and if you are going for that excellent tune, dont be cheaping out on an e-tune(email). those arent meant for max power, but "bang for the buck". also look at my signature, its a good example of exactly what you want.

Hey guys good discussion so far however, we are not going to be discussing "TTP" and their "dyno". Posts regarding that has been removed. Sore topic that will ignite a lot of people...

Thanks,
Mikey

You can achieve multiple combinations of numbers with different mods however you need to consider what risks you are setting yourself up for. Sometimes it is better to aim lower on numbers and have a more reliable tune that will give you some longevity. I spent eight years getting my car to my goal starting at 320hp -> 350-> 380 -> 474 -> and 515..

The higher you go the more probability you will have of something going wrong if your car is not built correctly. 350 is a very reasonable area to start and can most likely be achieved with a good set of bolt-ons. My Evo 8 had 320hp on my first tune with a TBE, intake, boost controller, inter cooler piping, fuel pump, and a tune.

Now, my car has a slue of different mods with two different maps set. I have one for 93 (474) and one for 93 + meth (515). Just take your time with it, do some good, logical thinking, and talk with your mechanics. Try to figure out what you want to use the car for, find out if that is reasonable, and go from there.

I know I have been kind of vague but I don't want to unintentionally send you down the wrong road. For instance, my car will never see the drag strip; I don't care what it does in the quarter. I have it for road driving in the mountains and some spirited street driving... If you have any particular questions feel free to PM me; maybe I can help you with some decisions. I am not the end-all answer to Evos but I can generally give you a direction to head.

Good Luck!
Josh

PS - I am not bashing people on the forum but don't take what people say on the forum to heart. This even includes what I said above. I have posted different questions in the past and had people suggest completely retarded ideas / solutions / recommendations. Listen to what each person has to say, think about it, and ask those that have a lot of experience on the cars. (shop mechanics are typically reliable but you have to watch them as well.)
Thanks, I'd just like to let you guys know I'm not a complete newb when it comes to these things. I have plenty of common sense and can hold my own when it comes to cars. I've already selected a potential future tuner. I know what mods I want to have done I just would like to know the most economical way to go about it. I want the car to be safe to DD and have the most power possible safely with the least amount spent in brand name mods. I don't really have to contact a tuner to ask what mods are necessary and what aren't, but I would like to ask someone what I absolutely have to and don't have to do. I just want to do exactly what is necessary and nothing more for now at least because I'm a college student (funds are tight) and just want a decent car to get me around. I plan on keeping the car for a very long time so I'm not in any hurry. I probably won't reach my "final" goal on the car for at least 3 to 4 years. I'm sure there is more I can say, I just don't want to make this post too long lol.

Sorry about that, unfortunately I wasn't here to hear the story behind them. If you don't mind could you PM me a short explanation or a link to a thread or something, I'd appreciate it.

Find a shop with a good Reputation and who knows what they are doing with Evos and get the info from them. I'm not trying to be mean just saying that a good shop will know what it take to get you there and they will assist you on your way. Thats just my two cents.
I completely agree, I will most likely contact a local reputable tuner to ask them any questions I may have when I'm ready.

Edit: I should have quoted you both in the same post, take a look at my response to evolotion357.

Thanks for the info, I know exactly what you mean in terms of the exhaust and other components which work similarily (the bigger and louder the more flow equaling more power and vise versa). I've read about checking for boost leaks and what not, I'll still read a little more though to get more aquainted. I've even read about the proper way of installing a new turbo more specifically the first start up and what not. The tune related info should be a given to all lol. How can anyone think a tuner can do the same for you over the internet as in person. Thanks again, took a look at your sig and it looks fairly similar to what I'd plan to do. It looks like you repeated "ams fmic" and "ams licp" both twice lol.

Lots of edits, was just trying to get a few points across. You guys don't have to talk to me like I'm a complete newb lol, I get the majority of it. All the info is great and I appreciate it guys. Hopefully this thread will help a future newb looking for similar info which was my other reason for this thread .

One more quick question I haven't been able to find the answer 100% to.. I know aside from mods, checking for boost leaks, installing a boost controller, a boost gauge and solenoid along with an air/fuel guage what do people do in terms of the stock MAP sensor? Do people usually use the stock one, the JDM 3 bar MAP sensor, or are there other options? So, if I were to make a list on all the things absolutely necessary aside from mods for a tune they would be..

- check for boost leaks
- boost contoller/solenoid & gauge
- Air/Fuel Gauge (not necessary, but recommended)
- 3 bar MAP sensor?

I'm new to the "boost" world, and have been driving an N/A RSX-S so sorry for the nub questions .

Who moved my thread and why is my post count down to 19 when just a moment ago it was at 40 or so? I know this thread may have been in the wrong section, but whoever did this should post and say something..

Edit: Now my post count isn't even going up, what's going on..?
