Evo in Yuc-Town

Hi guys, just recently bought an Evo 9 MR from a nice guy in Hesperia, CA. I found this forum and it's been extremely helpful. Im not sure what the guy had done to the Evo before i bought it, he says he put on a new pipe (dont know the brand) but it looks stock, and the only thing ive done is buy a K&N drop in filter. I had a coupon so i figured it was a good decision haha. Anyhow, I live in Yucaipa CA and was wondering if anyone here knew of a place to get my car tuned? (i look at all these mods for Evos and the general consensus seems to be "get a tune, then add stuff") so ive shy'd away from a few purchases. If anyone has any suggestions, nearest tune shops, recommendations, im all ears and would be grateful for the help also, if there are any groups that meet around here, that would be fun too. Thanks in advance!

If you get tuned and then add parts your going to have to just tune again and you will essentially be wasting money.

You should get the basics, hard pipes, mbc, dp, test pipe, and exhaust but being that you are in Cali and they are a real PITA with modifications someone from Cali will surely be able to chime in and advise on which parts arent going to cause you a huge headache.

But just as an fyi you can purchase and install all of these parts and then go for the tune and wont be hurting anything, you will just be running pig rich until you are tuned.

actually you are only half right. Not to come in and correct you like that like I know everything. There is harm overall when the car is being untuned running pig rich. Overtime you are causing alot of carbon deposits to be collected all over the pistons and fouling up the plugs. It can even cause the very same plugs not to fire up properly. Overtime it can cause the motor to overwork and explode.

I dont believe that this is the case, the tune is the tune when you get it. It comes pig rich from the factory so if anything at all you are helping this issue by helping the car breath better by putting your basic bolt ons on the car ie: hard pipes, open filter, and exhaust.

Your statement cant be true because anyone who has a completely stock evo can probably vouch for the excellent condition it runs in.... now if you were to have a garbage tune done to the car that is dumping tons of fuel or have a built motor like I have being tuned that had massive injectors on it idling for a while as the y were being scaled to the car then yes you will have a very high likely hood of fouling out the plugs but you wont have a retarded amount of carbon build up.

Carbon build up takes quite a long to to occur and even if a tiny, tiny bit build up I would be willing to be once you have her all tuned up that it would simply go away on its own.

Not to mention I had my IX with full bolt ons running on a stock tune for months before I got the tune done and I didnt have any issues what so ever, full bolt ons I was throwing down 340whp 333trq....

I forgot to answer a few things here. Cali just sucks a big fat one because #1 you only have 91 octane apparently and #2 emissions are a big deal in cali so thats just the way it is.

Running rich is where the stock tune sits, throw on the bolt ons and this will only help, get tuned and have the biggest s*** eating grin on your face with the new found power.

Even without the tune my car idled perfect, didnt stall (unless you dont know how to drive) etc...

Nothing to freak out about.
