Thoughts on an 06 Evo MR SE
Hey All,
Found this evo at a dealership with only 35k. Asking price is $25k, steeper than I wanted but almost completely stock from my first inspection and drive, even has stock exhaust. Mods I could find are ARC heat shield, upper strut bar, Blitz digital boost gauge. Not a single scratch on the car and has new tires. I asked the dealer for the inspection report but it looks like the previous owner babied it. Any input on the heat shield? Price? Some sort of wrap on the coolant tube too.

heat shield is no problem but look at the bolts on the turbo (if you can see them) and also the fins on the radiator, if it looks like the bolts have been wrenched on or if the fins on the radiator are dinged than most likely the turbo has been out and only more questions will follow.
Even if the car is clean I would try to get it for a little less, maybe 21k or 22k personally I would offer less than that and see where they meet you. Only a sucker would pay asking from a dealer they build that price with a plan of coming down so you feel like your getting a deal. I paid 22k last year for my 06 MR and it only had 17kmi.
Also are the tires advans or some off brand like fuzions or whatever. If they aren't the oem rubber or something similar than the car probably came into the dealer with ****ed tires which means it was either not well taken care of or beat to **** before they brought it in.
Youd be surprised how common it is to rally the **** out of something before trading it in.........with evos and stis donuts are particularly popular.

it looks like an MR SE, so a little more rare (wheels, lip, red stitching). I agree with akeric, try to get them to come down lower and see where they meet you. I'm pretty sure kbb or nada are lower, but I haven't looked in a while.
It does have a mini battery and I don't know why anyone would do that without putting aftermarket piping in, so I'm guessing it was brought back to stock to go to this dealer. Also, the stock Advans definitely won't go that far, but like akeric said, make sure they aren't absolute crap tires. good luck!

telltale signs of "put back to stock" evo. mini battery, heat shield-aftermarket, wrapped coolant tube for those large manifolds, curious blue tubing near the air filter which this evo has. I would check for the transferable warranty?
Also found a couple of things on the dealer inspection report: tires showing more wear on the inner edge. Not sure how normal this is on an Evo but leads me to believe there could have been lowering springs and negative camber. Any thoughts? They also had the brake master cylinder replaced because it was leaking.
It might still be a good buy, if the car is clean and hasn't been wrecked then it would still be nice to own, just don't pay a premium for it. Offer them 18k or less, personally I wouldn't pay more than 20 absolute MAX and I would really have to be in love with the car, and its just because there are going to be other cars out there that you will KNOW are in better condition. If you plan on modding then getting the car on the cheap is awesome since all those things that might be wrong will need to be gone over anyway.
If you want reliable daily drive and just plan on keeping it mod-free then I would look elsewhere.

Well, I asked to come in and speak to the mechanics who inspected the car and the dealer said someone had put money down on the car yesterday but there was an issue with their money situation or something. So this car may be sold.
I did find an 06 WW SSL (pics soon) that I am going to check out Monday. Has 50,000 on it, private seller, adult owner who wants an M3. Still a little high at $24k but this thing looks flawless and I am assured it's all stock and has brand new (<4000) Sumitomo tires. Thinking I may be able to hold out a bit longer for something cheaper but these test drives are making me want an Evo bad!!!
