DSM or EVO platform

I am planning on building a car that can utilize a motor and tranny from either setup. which do you think would be better? i can get a motor and tranny from a dsm for under 2k I think it is more like 5k for the evo plus mods to the awd tranny and transfer case to make it fwd. is there that much more aftermarket support and options on the evo setup to warrant the cost difference? i am looking to be at 400-500 rwhp.

Thanks!

FWD? serious? Why not just build with a Honda motor?

If your going to build a fwd car you should just stay dsm. You can make the hp #'s your looking for easy. Just make sure you stay away from the crank walk blocks.

So, you want front wheel drive, or rear wheel drive? Either way, an EVO is not the choice for your project if you are going to get rid of the AWD.

You should tell us what your goals are and what type of racing you plan on doing.

I would personally build an auto AWD DSM if you're looking to save some cash with a drag car. Evo can get expensive depending on how far you go.

It's a super light race car called the razor. U can google it. It is a rwd config. So uses a fwd 4g63 as a rwd/engine config

Ahhh cool. The place that builds them is 20 minutes from where I live.

Rock a FWD DSM setup then.

from what i gather the EVO base engine and tranny will be about 5k vs less than 2k for the dsm. the evo will need to be converted to fwd, not sure cost yet.
but evo has more parts availability and more aftermarket support. I only need 4-500 hp though so doesnt need a lot of work.

I'd stay with the Evo 4g63 so you can use the Mivec head with it.

I am thinking there are a lot of advantages to going evo such as continued R&D new parts, new cam profiles, seems the dsm is not being actively improved as it is an older platform...?

I think 400rwhp with a small ish turbo and a 9k+ rev limit would be awesome should spool around 4k or less from what ive seen...

for it to be cost effective, i'd say go DSM.

I think I am going evo. I am going to talk with the builder a Lil more but it is only a few k more than the dsm to start then similar cost later and the tranny is stronger than a fwd one. I'll get the transfer case blocked off and a quaife diff in it. Looks like an evo ix turbo and a set of s2 cams and I can hit 400rwhp on e85.
