Age of Lancer Evolution Owners [MERGED]
I'm 33 and use the Evo as my daily. I get some very strange looks from the younger ricer crowd. Also had someone try to race me until I pointed to my 7 year old son in the back seat, and then I felt old
.
.
well, im a 23 year old evo owner.. i know that doesnt help much..BUT, on the other hand, my dad who is 52 is driving around in an apex silver evo up in minnesota, so.. you are not the only one. I would also like to state that i had nothing to do with his buying an evo, it was purely his doing and his doing only, but i think its bad ***! to have a dad that drives an evo, i like to brag about it.. very cool.
Did you forget about me? I'm older than you and as you know I have an Evo...........it even looks just like yours.
As far as feeling old.............these people don't know you like I do. You are an old fart!
Age is just a number. It's all a state of mind. I think that makes me about 16.

I'm 30 and I love it. The wing is nothing compared to how 'bolted on' the double wing looked on my 6 - and I even got to love that double wing too, simply because it is functional and 'real'.
The first time I met a younger Evo owner was in the US, and even then I think you're pretty close to average - age wise.
I owned cars such as BMW M Roadster and Renault Alpine and there is always people that don't get it or don't agree. One side called the Evo a 'turbo' rice cooker, the other side called the Bimmer a hairdresser's car. No opinion on the Alpine as they probably thought it was a mountain range.
Somebody tried to honestly compliment me on the 321hp bimmer by saying it was a better choice than a new beetle.
The point is - who cares? The Evo is an amazing driver's car. The wing is part of the performance package. If people don't get it, it's their problem, I couldn't care less about their inner torment or ignorance. Just enjoy it

The "low wing" for the EVO looks EXACTLY like the standard low wing on the OZ Lancer. I didn't like the attention of the high wing myself and have sold it and bought a low wing. After seeing this thread:

I decided to do the same thing with my car.

PS: I turn 33 next month.

This has been covered in numerous threads before, but I know quite a few Evo owners older than I am, and I'm 37.
Frankly, I don't see how most of the 19-25 crowd can afford the car, and I think that in general many of them aren't ready for the car. I didn't buy my first performance car until my 26th birthday, and that was a 10-year-old Porsche for $12K. I would have had no business buying an Evo at that time (assuming it had been available) -- I wasn't ready for it financially and I didn't have enough experience with performance cars.
It sounds like you bought the Evo for the right reasons. Enjoy it and stop worrying about what others think. I think half the people that I know thought I was crazy to buy mine. But I bought it for me, not for them.

33 here. Check out my profile and you'll see the required kid seat gear (4 and 6 yrs old). I love the car and most of the guys I work with are pretty hip to it also. I used to subscribe to the "No replacement for displacement" philosophy (in fact every car that I have owned prior to this one has been GM) but after making several business trips to Japan and seeing how cool some of these turbo cars are I had to have one. My wife likes driving it too. The only thing she gives me grief about is not having a classy car anymore (we traded in an Aurora for this car). Oh well. She also threw a chuckle my way the other day when a civic with a wing on the roof drove next to us and reved it's engine. I must admit, that's a bit of a bummer. (Racing a civic with wife and kids in the car = unfun)
mmm im 19 and i love the car
i bought it for myself and i do hate the fact the the general group my age is looked at as "there mommy and daddy bought it for them" im sure that people see me driving and think this.. It pisses me off because i work a 40 hr week... to have this car.. I work at a job that i got for myself. And its a job i worked my way up the ranks into! Just because you see an young evo driver please dont just figure that there mom and dad bought it for them. Just respect them for having the same taste as you

Well in that same speech there maybe i know a few 25-41 year olds that shouldnt be driving it... Me personally it pisses me off because as you will see in the post above this one i work for my ride and i have worked for everything i own.... As far as the performance car issue. I have lived eaten and breathed performance from a young age... Raced Alchol preped racing go karts from about 9-15 and yet some ppl say i shouldnt be driving this car.... in an essence i would like to meet some of these "more experienced drivers" and totally dominate on there skillz.... do me a favor though just because you werent ready dont blow the horn on everyone else that is capable! i admit though... Im an exception to the rule if i dont mind saying so myself. People my age are regularly very irresponsible and have a big ego. "i share the big ego but only about my driving" i show that i deserve this car everyday. I work for it and work hard for it if i must say... Not trying to start a flame war here but i just hate stereo types!
I'm 47, married for 25 years, have four kids and one grandchild. I bought a Rally red EVO last week and it was probably the best money I have spent in years. I buy cars for how they make me feel when I drive them, not how I feel when I look at them, or how I want other people to view me. Having said that, I think she looks great. If people look at me driving her, whether they are 20 or 50, and think I am some guy in the middle of a mid-life crisis, that's fine, more power to them. I'm not losing any sleep over it. It would be nice if I could hook up with like minded drivers closer to my age than my kids, but after the attempts I have made recently on this website to reach out to folks in the NW, I don't think that will happen. I am a professionally trained and certified protection driver, and while I am passionate about driving, driving quickly and skillfully, I could care less about the percentage of tint on someone's windows, how much power their stereo puts out, and how many modifications they have made to their cars, which is what the majority of 20 somethings seem to be concerned with. Those things simply don't interest me, so perhaps I don't have much, if anything in common with the younger EVO drivers. Or perhaps I am making incorrect assumptions. Either way, it really doesn't matter. I didn't take a poll before I bought her as to the average age of EVO drivers, although I knew I would be older than most. I did some research, and then got behind the wheel. That was all I needed to make my decision. The smile she puts on my face when i power out of a corner, they way she talks to me thru the steering wheel, the steering response, everything about the car tells me the age of the driver doesn't matter. If you are 20 and look at me like I am an old man driving a young man's car, all I can say is try and keep up. If you are my age and look at me in my EVO and don't get it, all I can say is get behind the wheel. If you don't get it then you never will. If you are a driver, you get it no matter what age you are.

Do older people not think the EVO is a great car or am I just too old for this car?

Actually, I wasn't really planning on making any additions to the 'fun' collection until I was test driving (for fun, of course) several cars including the RX8, the G35, the STI, and the EVO. I was so completely blown away by the EVO (stunning balance/handling/control in wet and dry) that it will soon be an addition to my car family...
