Age of Lancer Evolution Owners [MERGED]
I have paid for all of my cars since age 16. My second car was an Eclipse GSX. It was as close to an Evo that I could get since the GVR4 was in such short supply. It was also a better choice for me to have an Eclipse because back in high school, cool guys didn't drive 4 door cars.
Anyway, When I sold the GSX, I missed it like hell. About a year later, I came across another GSX that I just had to get. I picked it up as my second car (a Jeep Wrangler was my primary mode of transportation), and by having another mode of transportation, I was able to devote more wrench time and do more to it. Then I picked up a third car (an Acura Integra) for better gas mileage and to use as a daily driver. The Jeep that I had started getting wrench time, too. It became an off-road toy and the Eclipse became a fun-as-hell drive. I was looking at selling all 3 of them and buying something "new" for my next car. I had two choices:
1. Import a 1992 Skyline BNR R-32 from Japan through Omega Skylines and spend around $30,000 total to get the job done.
2. Hope that, by some miracle, Mitsu finally decides to bring over the Evo, either the 7 or the 8.
Well, as we all know, they did bring out the Evo and I decided that even though owning something as rare as a Skyline in the US would be nice, the Evo was a straight-off-the-showroom-into-your-driveway car. This was the major reason that I went with the Evo over the Skyline because I didn't really have time to drop all that cash and still not be able to drive the car for months while it was fitted with the required parts. The second reason that I went with the Evo....Hell, I'm die hard Mitsubishi, even if their warranty stance with the Evo sucks.
I'm 25 but I assure you that no matter how old I am, I will always love all wheel drive, turbocharged, manual gearbox fun. It isn't about age, status, family size, or anything like that. It's about that space on your face between your ears that stays fixed in a constant position when you are behind the wheel.
There's a silver Evo running around where I live that I keep trying to talk to. The first time I saw it comming at me on the road, I flashed my high beams and stuck my hand out the window to wave. She replied by flashing the "peace" sign with her hand. She had grey hair and had to at least be 50.
I was on my way to somewhere at the time, so I couldn't turn around. Eventually, I'll catch up with her and we'll have to shoot the ****. I'll point her in the direction of this website so that maybe she can offer some words of wisdom or something.

Have you ever gone over the stuff this car has in it with a "laymen" and gotten that blank stare??!
Some people..NO ..actually...A LOT of people have NO CLUE what this car is about...
I never really thought of the EVO as a "kids car" anyways..
To me, it's a Japanese M3...and more..

Actually, there were a lot of good points in this thread.
"People" I know say crap about the wing, like only a kid would drive a car with a wing that big etc. Look at the 80's vintage M3, a base sedan chassis with upgraded engine, suspension, and a giant bat wing, seems familiar, heh.
As for kids nowadays being able to afford it, if you are making $50k and don't already have a house, retirement, and whatnot, I'm not sure if you "should" buy this car. Well it may be fun, but not necessarily the best financial decision. Then again, maybe I shouldn't have bought it either, lol. Married, homeowner, 401K, Roth IRA, 30 years old (almost 31), dual incomes, but a baby on the way...

35 here, once great cars are in your blood age becomes irrelevant! I have owned and been moding cars since 1986 (85’ Corolla GT-S). The EVO is now officially the most enjoyable car I have owned, a close second was my 91’ MR2 Turbo. There is nothing that makes me feel more alive then the adrenalin rush that the EVO provides...
Oh wait, almost forgot about my Kawi ZX-6R, 0-60 in 2.5, 1/4 in 10.1!

I'm 35 and I love it. I've always watched WRC and NHRA and admired the speed. I've also spent several years in Germany on the AutoBahn. Kinda pissed me off when I had to start to look at how fast I was driving. I love it driving by people with the car seat in the back. I don't care what anybody thinks I love this car.
43 years old. I I have always been into high performance cars. This one was just the next step. Moving from V8 Mustang's. (cheap to own and build.) I wanted some thing a little more high tech. After rally racing in Italy, in the late 70's early 80"s I have always followed the cars. In the 90's I wanted a Cossie Escort, then the Evo, Drove the Subbie(did not like it.) When the Evo arrived on our shore's I had to have one.
41 years old. I have been doing track events with Porsche club for about 8 years. My Porsche is collecting dust. This car is great, I have the big wing and loud exhaust and do not care what anyone thinks. This is my daily driver and is everything I hoped it would be.
im 25 and work with all older guys, there all still hung up on the v8's which i love too, and they have no idea about the already legendary staus of the evo and its even greater potential, hey dont worry your car rocks lol
When I bought my 1999 Eclipse GSX, people at work called it my mid-life crisis car. Now that I have the EVO, they are calling it my end-of-life crisis car. If you can appreciate what this car is all about, it doesn't matter what your age is. By the way, I am 60.

Military "kids" who are on their own usually do pretty good for themselves.. on their OWN, i know because i am one of them.. at 21 i was bringing in about 50k a year, please watch what you say with your stereotypes, they are a thing of the past.

I honestly don't understand why young people in their early 20s who are doing well want to convince everyone that all people in their early 20s are doing well. They're not. Most of them are living paycheck to paycheck, running up debt, and generally not in good shape financially. That described me at that age; even though I was earning $54K a year at age 25 and thought I was doing well, looking back now I can see that I was damn near broke. If that doesn't describe you, wonderful, enjoy it. But realize how fortunate you are. You're not doing any favors to the others of your age group -- who actually are struggling -- when you go around talking about how well off your generation is.
Please lets not start all this BS. Cool you are doing good, when I was 19 I was making 2x that much now I make almost a Mill a year, who gives a ****? We are NOT talking about who makes more we are talking about age vs skill on the road. I had a TT Rx-7 when I was 19 and put about 10k into it, it was fast as **** and I did lapping days all the time. I would race people, I rear ended someone at 120 on the interstate @ 2:00am no one was hurt. Then I was doing burn outs and went into a ditch because the car would not stop spinning. Is this un-usual? Nope, friends did the same ****. All we are saying and now I know this is true because I am 28 is that when people are 18-2xish they do dumb ****. It's just a fact, and insurance says so. Remember in High School about the kid who got everything, New cars, hit a tree get a new car? They are now taking orders at McDonald's as well that's just the facts.

38 here, and don't give a damn what other people think.
After living in Japan for 10 years, I got hooked on JDM cars.
After moving back to the US, I was going to get the STi when it arrived, but then came the EVO. I bought the car site unseen, and before I found this web site.
I drive it everyday to work. Which is a great way to start the day, and then I have something to look forward to at the end of the day.
So IMO screw what others think, as long as your happy, that's all that matters.
After all your the one making the payments.

Just turned 55 and I've got to admit the EVO raises some eyebrows. The other day a service tech was at my house working on the heat pump. She sees the car in the driveway and says "is thay really your car?"
BTW, heat pumps suck.

Does the short spoiler come standard on the car if you don't opt for the CF wing? I've only seen them with the CF wing next door at the Mitsu store. I don't think they've had a single one come through that didn't have the CF wing. I guess I'll have to get one ordered to avoid the wing.
