Age of Lancer Evolution Owners [MERGED]
I'm 40 and 6 months ago bought the Apex small wing Evo. It's debadged, stealthy and the cops don't even notice the car. It's got the the Works P2, throttle body, 3" RMR turbo back exhaust terminating with the Exhale. 7K on the odo. It's the best car I've ever driven, especially in the twisties. My 6 & 7 year old kids love it too!

to the older folks (older than I) that have EVO's. I think it's cool that this car attracts all kinds of people, young and old. I guess the Mitsu commercials are right

30 here. Wow, alot of folks exactly 30. First learned of the Evo playing Gran Turismo 1 in 1998.
Anyways, I really like my car. The wing is still kind of questionable for me. I have seen pics of Evos without the wing, and to me, the car just doesn't look right. Its strange, because a WRX without a wing (like the Spec-C) looks awesome, but it isn't the same for a Evo without the wing.
I guess the wing is part of the Evo tradition. But yeah, alot of folks have no clue. Its those folks who think we are just another Chevy Cavalier or Ford Probe with a homemade metal tin wing bolted to the trunk.
Several people I know who are supposedly car people have replied to me that "I didn't know they were importing Evos in the USA". I have heard that from several different people at several different times.
But yeah, I love the way the car feels. The great seats, small steering wheel, stiff suspension, strong accleration, awesome brakes, etc.... That is why I chose this car.

WOW
WOW, the response to this thread is incredible.
I cant believe how wrong I have been about the age of EVO owners. I guess I just see a lot of kids driving them here and thus that was the impression I had.
Thanks to everyone for their replies.

I just picked up my Evo yesterday, Christmas Eve (Santa was awesome, this year!). As far as my age, my wife suggested a new plate to replace my current 'EJ HONDA' plate - '40 CRISIS'. There's an age clue in that one. I told her I'd get that if she got 'HOTFLASH' or 'MENOPAWS'.
I used to feel like I was the kid who repeated 12th grade about 10 times when I was hanging in Accord boards. It seemed like it was me and a bunch of misspelling teens & 20-somethings. But then I remember we were discussing what exhaust systems were the best sounding, and some guy was saying he thought it was a Greddy, and he was going to post a sound clip right after he recuperated from prostate surgery. A few other guys asked him how old was he to have prostate problems, assuming he was their age. His answer? 63! I didn't worry about being the oldest guy on the boards, and I didn't worry about being the oldest modder out there, either.
I just don't get how you younger guys afford this stuff. When I was 23, I was busy trying to pay off school loans, POS car loans, and paying rent on a bachelor pad. I'm lucky I didn't get the itch until I was in my prime earning years, and able to buy parts without starving the kids or ignoring the mortgage or retirement fund.

34, w/ a 21 year old G/F which I mentioned before..
Older EVO owners.
You're as young as you feel.
I'm 52 and still remember back before I even had my license having a salesman at the local Dodge dealer open the hood of one of the new cars back in the 60's and giving us a look at our first hemi.
I've owned V8 pony cars, imports and got my EVO back in July.
I figure I'll be old when I stop feeling this way about cars.

It's a lot of car for the money, but at 44 there's no way I'd drive one of these. I remember working at a chevy dealer when I was out of school and female saleswomen laughing at guys coming in and buying Corvettes. Always "fat, bald and old". A guy in our building just bought one and I was walking around the parking lot with co workers. When they saw it they all kind of laughed and made comments about the the wing like "ready for lift off". .Even after explaning about the cars performance, they said "so what, it looks ridiculous". Maybe they'll offer the EVO GTA, which is a more grwon up looking package. The other unfortunate aspect of this car is that it has been tainted by the fact that a huge number are being bought by spoiled kids who still live in their parents basement. Not a crowd I'd like to be associated with.
