New guy with 04 evo

Hey all! New to this site, not new to forums. I just picked up a 04 Evo with 39000 miles with tons of work done to it. Basically a track car. Problem is theres a title issue where id have to hire an attorney to get it fixed... About $1000 to do. AAAAnd i dont have those kinds of funds laying around. But i do have a title. Question is what would the car be worth without a title? It does have a salvage title. But runs/ drives amazing. list of whats been done..

dynomax 3"turboback
greddy radiator
hks intercooler, intercooler piping with tial wastegate/bov
aem adjustable cam gears
perrin rear sway bar
tein coilovers
tein rear strut brace
apr carbon fiber mirrors
seibon carbon fiber hood
sparco 4 point brace with sparco harnesses
hks turbo timer
greddy profec b spec 2 electronic boost controller currently at 24 psi
Cams (not sure which brand)
18"work wheels
Walbro fuel pump
Probably other just cant think right now

Without a title the car is useless to most anyone as the original owner could technically come and claim the car at any point

I got the car to dd. But didnt realize that the title was going to be such an issue. I considered parting it out and making some moolah but im too lazy. And i dont have the money to keep it as a track car. And dont have the 1000-2000 to get the title.... SO im selling it as is. Someone can get an attorney and get the title or track it or part it out i guess... i was just curious what the car would be worth.

is there a good reason that it can't be put into your name but could be put into someone else's name without hassle/cost?

I too am very confused by your post. I was initially going to congradulate you and welcome you to the site bc an 04 evo with 39k original miles is a great find. im also wondering what makes it "basically a track car". It does have mods, but compared to most people on this site, those mods are all super basic and DD worthy.

so whats the deal with the title? Why exactly cant you have it transferred into your name? What will the lawyer do to rectify the situation? Salvage title aside (hugely decreases the value), i dont understand how you could purchase the car and have the bill of sale and title, but have it not be in your name...?

like someone else said, if the title is still in the previous owner's name, he could easily come back and try to reclaim the car, and with you having the bill of sale, would force you to go to court to fight for the car regardless.

did you buy the car knowing you could not have it in your name? bc that seems rather dumb from where im sitting. or did you figure this out after you bought the car?

im guessing there was a good reason the seller sold it to you with these issues, and is going to be nearly impossible to sell to someone else here or elsewhere with a salvage title, and a title that cant be transferred to the next owner.

so again, what exactly is the title issue and what can the lawyer do to help? best bet is to part it out for the 1k you say you need and make it your car even if you are going to sell it, because you will lose much more than that with the current issues.

did you get a damn good deal? what did you pay?

Alright long story it is... When i moved here to sc in 09 i saw this silver, slammed evo in front of this house. About 6 months ago i decided to knock on the door and ask about it.. So what happened was he purchased the car in 09 in texas off fleabay. Got it back here and went to the dmv and they said that it had been signed in the wrong place and he would have to go through an attorney and file a quiet title (i never heard of that either till i looked it up. Look up quiet title). Well apparently he didnt have the funds to do it as it runs between $1000-2500 in attorney and court costs. So he parked it under a carport under a cover for 4 years. Thats when i came along and bought it in hopes to get the title. But when i bought it didnt know at that point it was gonna be that much to get the title... So thats where im at now.. if i cant sell it ill keep it as a track car. As of now i have an offer for $8000. But i didnt know if it was worth more or less. Thats when i posted here. I tell you tho. I LOVE this car. Im automatically happy everytime i drive it. Yes i have atleast insurance on it. And i have NO idea what kind of hp it has but i raced a 11 z06 from a 30 roll to maybe 70 and was half a car ahead. So i was def impressed.
