Evo 8 or 9 as first car at 16?

Hey guys. I've been wondering, if an Evo 8 or 9 is a bad idea to get as a first car. People are saying its way too fast blah blah blah and some are saying if you don't drive reckless ill be fine. I'm a 4.0 GPA student, thats why I'm getting rewarded.
Now, I only drive about 2 miles to get to my highschool. After sports season is over, I will be looking for a job so I can pay off insurance and what not (I live In a small town so a minimum wage job is not hard to find). I've been driving my dads Honda civic around (illegally) for about a year now. But not long distance or anything. There's barely any cops where I live.
I just need some advice and maybe another person out there that already experienced having an Evo as a first car tell me how it went? And the payments? Please help and Thanks a lot

No. An Evo, or any car like it, is a horrible first car. Get yourself, or get your parents to buy you, something like a Civic, base Lancer, base Impreza, etc. For a first car, reliability, fuel economy and affordability are far more important than speed. You just started driving, you don't need a car that can get you into a lot of trouble fast.

I have some breathing room for insurance but maintenance depends on how much you drive it right? :/

No. Here is way.. It will be too expensive for you. And if u lose ur job then who will pay for it? IMO it's too much power for a young kid with happy feet on gas. Maybe u won't get caught but u can hurt yourself or others if u don't drive the car respectfully. Like someone said above.. Get a base car..practice the fundamentals of driving before u get in a car that can get u in trouble. Considering u already admitted to not being a respectful driver by steeling your dads car, I don't think u should be getting into a EVO or any car equivalent to it. Just my 2cents

Get it. Be responsible, be smart and respect what you have. I owned my evo at 18, had zero issues and zero tickets. Maintainance isnt THAT bad. If you keep up on it, you will be just fine.

Wow an Evo as your first car! Times change, my first car at 16 was a 1994 Jetta(10yrs ago). Like everybody else has said I'd say your too young, but go for it you live and you learn.

if you do get one try to remember to curb your confidence. the second you start feeling confident you should remember that you've just entered the danger zone and get yourself scared again. these cars can accelerate but even worse rotate incredibly fast. you don't want to have to walk around feeling like a chump after you smash it up or, worst case, kill some innocent. get some autocross or better yet, HPDE under your belt. study fundamental car control.

All of that said, deferred gratification is one of the most important things you may learn to accomplish in life.

An Evo would definitely make for a lot of car to handle as your first car, however, if you can drive reasonably and respect what you are driving and what it is capable of, you will be fine. I've seen first hand the amount of damage and grief an inexperienced driver can cause while pushing a car too hard. Just keep these things in mind.

Bad idea. Like others have said, it's way too much for a lot of drivers, let alone a 16 year-old. Having a 4.0 doesn't mean that you're going to be a good driver, it just means that you're a good student. It's not that hard to get good grades in high school. Additionally, minimum wage certainly isn't enough to cover the costs (you asked about insurance, maintenance and payments), even if you live at home and don't pay for food.
